In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we celebrate one of our nation's Black heroes, Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, who great up in South Carolina's Old 96 District.

Dr. Mays was one of the nation's most influential Civil Rights leaders and shaped leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and three U.S. Presidents. Today, visitors to the Benjamin E. Mays Historic Site will see his 1900s era sharecropper homestead and find a large collection of his books, writings, films, speeches, and personal items.
