A winter storm watch has been issued in two Chicago-area counties beginning Thursday as a storm is expected to dump several inches of snow on parts of northern Illinois.
The watch, which begins at 1 p.m. Thursday and continues through 10 a.m. Friday, includes Lake and McHenry counties, in addition to Winnebago and Boone counties. There, 6 inches of more of "heavy wet snow" is possible.
According to the alert, travel could be "very difficult" during the storm.
"The hazardous conditions could impact both the Thursday evening and Friday morning commute," the weather alert states.

The legendary founder of Mr. Beef, Chicago's iconic Italian beef stand for over 40 years, has passed away. Joe Zucchero opened the tiny River North joint with his brother in 1979, and it's remained a staple as the neighborhood transformed into a dining destination. Mr. Beef is a definitive Chicago street food, with thin-sliced beef on toasted rolls, and a longtime inspiration for locals and visitors alike. Though the beef sandwich has spread across the US, Mr. Beef stands out in the originator's hometown. The owners' lifelong friendship even inspired the TV show 'The Bear.' RIP to a Chicago legend who fed the city for generations.
