Do you drink herbal tea? We ❤️ it! A good cuppa is good for the soul & body. We make our own here at FFF. It saves so much $ and is so much better when you harvest it yourself - you know what is in your tea, no chemicals, no carbon footprint, organic and not shipped 1/2 way round the world or made exploiting underpaid workers.
It's so easy to do - we'll be showing you how to make it yourself at our next workshop Foraging in your backyard
Herbs & Wild medicinal Workshop
Not to mention all participants in our next workshop will be taking home their own jar of self made wild herbal tea, having a cuppa and enjoying an afternoon tea wild food smorgasbord of tasty treats.

Happy Beltane & Halloween for yesterday!
Our family celebrates Beltane which is a joyous spring salute to Mother Nature- basically we throw flowers in the air - feast and offer thanks for the beautiful gifts nature has given us in the season past and ask for happiness in the season to come! ❤️🌼 we give offerings on our Nature Altar of Hawthorn & Elderberry flowers to symbolise healing and rebirth.
BUT that being said we also love a good costume dress up opportunity so we do both Despite my feelings of disgust at the American corporations take over of what was originally a pagan festival - that takes place in Autumn! Called Samhain (pronounced sa-ween) Hence the pumpkins they were a symbol of the last harvest before winter 🎃 And don't even get me started on the plastic and the sugar consumption of modern Halloween!!
But I swallow all that deep down and take my son trick or treating cause we love dressing up! Hope everyone had a great day no matter what you were celebrating yesterday ❤️

This one you probably know- good old Dandelion! 🌼 BUT did you know it's a powerhouse of vitamins K, A, C, B, not to mention potassium, iron & zinc?
BUT wait there's MORE!
It also has anti inflammatory properties, helps regulated your blood sugar and blood pressure, is super high in antioxidants- helping to prevent cell damage, aids digestive health and even boosts your immune system!
And promising research has been conducted over the past few years showing dandelion root extract to be extremely effective at targeting cancerous cells- leaving healthy cells unharmed.
What more could you ask for?
Tasty AF salad green or spinach replacement, make a great tasting coffee alternative from it's root. Such an amazing plant - yet so many people treat it as a w**d to be sprayed- it's even the poster child of w**ds for most w**d killer advertising! - that drives me nuts when I see people spraying this healing herb - when I am trying to get it to spread all over my vegie patch! 🌿🤣
Dandelion flowers are a beautiful addition to any meal, especially rice paper rolls as our newbie foragers at last weekend's workshop discovered!
Oh and you can even make a vegan honey replacement from Dandelion and apple flours boiled down (with sugar) very authentic faux honey so I'm told! :)

How beautiful is this plant? You may know it as a w**d you rip out! BUT it's a healing herb that you should be harvesting. This is Stickyw**d AkA Cleavers - Gallium Alpine if we're being scientific! It's packed full of amazing health benefits namely as a cleansing herb 🌿 it aids your lymphatic system in removing toxins from your body.

It's Hawthorn flower season and nothing gets this forager quite as excited as these blossoms! It means Beltane our big Spring celebration is just around the corner 🥰 aside from being a beautiful sight they are also a great medicinal addition to our herbal tea promoting healthy heart function and tasting delicious 😋

What an amazing workshop today. Huge thanks to the great group of people who joined Oscar and I to make it such a special day 😀 We enjoyed wild herbal tea made from mallow, stickyw**d, chickw**d, plantain, lemon balm and native mint bush flowers. Then everyone made their own edible art rice paper rolls with dandelion flowers picked on our identification walk, calendula, onion w**d & borage flowers with miner's lettuce and chickw**d. Some tofu, rice noodles and dipping sauce made our foraged tasty treats complete! Beautiful and delicious 😋 can't wait for the next event showcasing 6 new edible w**ds coming soon. So much to forage in spring time I can't fit it all into one workshop!!

For the last 2 years our family has been working to bring our farm and foraging to you. I'm so happy to give you a sneak peek into the progress of our brand spanking new workshop space!! I was tiling and renovating up until I was about 6 months pregnant with Baby Astrid. Who now hangs out with me while I work and try to finish this massive project in-between baby naps and real life, running a farm and a small business. If you ever chat with me and I say "been a bit busy lately" this is why! 😆 still very much under construction but considering 5 years ago when we bought this property this space was a hoarder shed and you couldn't walk in there for all the rubbish, it's an insane transformation!!

So lovely to hear from a long time forager and friend Jeff Montgomery today who has been coming to our workshops for years and I'm proud to hear how much he has learnt, he made his own onion w**d flower pickle to be savored for xmas! Here's my pickle and his side by side. To be honest I think his looks better! (The 2nd pic) I love seeing how people get passionate about foraging after coming to our workshops and how they share that passion with others 😀 on ya Jeff

check out my herbal balls!
My latest invention = herbal tea balls! :) watch how easy this is!
I love a good bargain, saving and making something amazing out of very little. I'm also a gourmet foodie borderline food snob! If you're anything like me you're a bit choosy about mayo. The mayo I grew up eating is now $15 bucks a jar! So a few years ago my bestie made some quick and easy homemade mayo and showed me how. Now I'm sharing the secret to 60 second mayo with you all. Thanks Kate, I haven't bought mayo since you showed me this great hack! ❤️
1 egg
1/2 cup oil
Splash of vinegar
Pinch of salt
Sprig of dill

Mushroom season is finally getting started. These inedible Yellow Stainers are everywhere atm and can fool you! More to come soon!

Mallow, wild rocket, Icelandic frost plant and more urban foraging at it's best!
For all my fellow foragers in urban areas this one is for you! And shout out to any vegans or those of us who run out of eggs while baking this explains how to use Mallow as an egg substitute!
Our 1st attempt at weedaculture
Success! Weedaculture is working!!! Cute piglet alert! 😊
Identifying Yellow stainer mushrooms, field mushroom identification = what not to eat.
With so many mushrooms popping up in people's lawns, I thought I'd share a video on how to identify Yellow stainer mushrooms aka the bad guys. Remember be safe with your foraging.🍄❤
Please feel free to share so others can pick safely and avoid upset tummies this season!
And yes mushroom WORKSHOP events are coming, just need some more mushrooms to get the season started in central Victoria! :) stay tuned!

Our Story
Free Food Foragers is a ‘Mum run’ grass roots initiative that started 4 years ago with a simple moment of gardeners frustration. While pulling out endless w**ds from the garden and getting covered in sticky w**d, I asked “You pain of a plant, you have to be good for something more than sticking to my clothes?”
This started my research, when I discovered this sticky w**d otherwise known as Cleaver was in fact an edible w**d and had great health benefits, a passion for more was ignited and it never stopped.
Before I knew it is was endlessly prattling on to my family about it with “did you know you can eat this… and it does this for you…”
Eventually my Partner in crime Misha said to me “find someone who does want to hear about your wild food stuff cause it’s great and all but I’m sick of hearing about it, I’ll eat it but I don’t want to hear about how good it is for me!”
This was how Free Food Foragers came to be, I thought to myself that he was right, I would find someone who wanted to hear about it and maybe my hobby can become my business.
After 3 years of research, foraging and homestead life living off the land we have reduced our food bill by over 50% from foraging, growing our own produce and keeping livestock.
It’s not all life on the Prairie nice and easy lifestyle, in fact it’s hard, time consuming work trying to balance living off the land with modern lifestyles and a young son who’s been with us on this journey all the way.
Now we run workshops regularly with great success, teaching others to forage and remove invasive w**d edibles from the wild and add them to their menu!
This blog is to share with you the trials and triumphs our continuing journey has to offer. It’s a brutally honest and sometimes funny account of our weird and wonderful family adventures with some helpful hints thrown in along the way.
