Check out my giant balls!!! Giant puffballs that is 😆🍄 bigger ones were too far gone to eat, but little ones were peeled sliced dipped and crumbed fried until golden brown = mmmhmmm. They look terrible on the outside but peel back the skin, fluffy white marshmallow inside and white all the way through with no yellow or purple = puffballs! Was just driving down the street and saw these large white rocks and my foraging instinct kicked in, I had to stop and see!

Bit of rain and our farm is filled with fungi again! I thought it was snow at first glance, but it's fungi breaking down all the animal poo!

Inside is asparagus, gerkin different flavored slices. I wanted to make our Foraging family something special after they missed out on all then wild food afternoon tea action yesterday.

Wow what a great event today, thank you to the wonderful group of foraging ladies who joined me for our first 3 hour intensive workshop. You all made the day so much fun ❤️ I'm beyond lucky to do this for a living and you have my gratitude for your continued support. Everyone made their own custom herbal tea to take home, learned how to make poultices, infusions and we had 20 herbs and plants on the display table to use and eat!
The food was so yummy, the fish shaped cake was the croud fav😋 we've had a lot of requests to run this event again and I'm pleased to announce we'll be running another one soon 😀

So many Jars of dried herbs in my workshop kitchen for our workshop today, I have some serious satisfaction over 10 herbs I've processed in the last few weeks for this event. I was cooking for 4 hours yesterday making some amazing tasty treats for my fellow foragers to enjoy 😉

Do you know what this flower is? ;) We do and we love it! BUT did you know if you crush the yellow flowers they become a red dye colour? It's St John's Wort. Well regarded for its mood boosting properties, but it's also anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and antiviral! What a great herb - but bad space invader w**d of native areas so harvest the s**t out of it when you can! Easy identification atm with those trademark yellow flowers and it's tiny green leaves.
This will be one of the stars of the show at Sunday's Foraging in your backyard

A little sneak peak - guess what I've been finally getting around to?
13/11/2024
Menu testing for our upcoming event is hard work = NOT! 🤪
Elderflower infused scone crumble slice with Cheesecake topping and berry yummy quick jam.
Quick jam as I call it = (made from the fruit my son left in his lunchbox today!) - slice up your fruit- put in bowl - add some water and a smidgen of sugar - microwave at 1-2 min intervals until reduced to jam consistency 👌 great way to make use of berries that are about to become chook food 🫐🍓

Do you drink herbal tea? We ❤️ it! A good cuppa is good for the soul & body. We make our own here at FFF. It saves so much $ and is so much better when you harvest it yourself - you know what is in your tea, no chemicals, no carbon footprint, organic and not shipped 1/2 way round the world or made exploiting underpaid workers.
It's so easy to do - we'll be showing you how to make it yourself at our next workshop Foraging in your backyard
Herbs & Wild medicinal Workshop
Not to mention all participants in our next workshop will be taking home their own jar of self made wild herbal tea, having a cuppa and enjoying an afternoon tea wild food smorgasbord of tasty treats.
So excited for this event with our brand new local community house 😜 1/2 places sold out already! https://www.trybooking.com/CWPNE

Happy Beltane & Halloween for yesterday!
Our family celebrates Beltane which is a joyous spring salute to Mother Nature- basically we throw flowers in the air - feast and offer thanks for the beautiful gifts nature has given us in the season past and ask for happiness in the season to come! ❤️🌼 we give offerings on our Nature Altar of Hawthorn & Elderberry flowers to symbolise healing and rebirth.
BUT that being said we also love a good costume dress up opportunity so we do both Despite my feelings of disgust at the American corporations take over of what was originally a pagan festival - that takes place in Autumn! Called Samhain (pronounced sa-ween) Hence the pumpkins they were a symbol of the last harvest before winter 🎃 And don't even get me started on the plastic and the sugar consumption of modern Halloween!!
But I swallow all that deep down and take my son trick or treating cause we love dressing up! Hope everyone had a great day no matter what you were celebrating yesterday ❤️

For the last 2 years our family has been working to bring our farm and foraging to you. I'm so happy to give you a sneak peek into the progress of our brand spanking new workshop space!! I was tiling and renovating up until I was about 6 months pregnant with Baby Astrid. Who now hangs out with me while I work and try to finish this massive project in-between baby naps and real life, running a farm and a small business. If you ever chat with me and I say "been a bit busy lately" this is why! 😆 still very much under construction but considering 5 years ago when we bought this property this space was a hoarder shed and you couldn't walk in there for all the rubbish, it's an insane transformation!!
How to make onion weed flower pickle in 3 minutes! So easy!
I'll be serving this in rice paper rolls on Sunday at our next event FOOD is FREE Foraging for Beginners Workshop 5 places left if you want to come taste this for yourself 😀 Tickets avail here https://www.trybooking.com/CVZRG
Have you ever had FORAGING FOMO? I have been having it bad! Worried I'll miss this season's onion weed flower pickle like I did last year - cause I was so pregnant I couldn't bend down to pick them! 😆 but I haven't missed pickle day this year, video of recipe and how to make is my next job 👍♥️get out there and harvest some onion weed flowers before it's too late and help reduce this weed's invasive impact on native habitat areas and waterways = win win. Yum for you, good for the bush 😋

check out my herbal balls!
My latest invention = herbal tea balls! :) watch how easy this is!
I love a good bargain, saving and making something amazing out of very little. I'm also a gourmet foodie borderline food snob! If you're anything like me you're a bit choosy about mayo. The mayo I grew up eating is now $15 bucks a jar! So a few years ago my bestie made some quick and easy homemade mayo and showed me how. Now I'm sharing the secret to 60 second mayo with you all. Thanks Kate, I haven't bought mayo since you showed me this great hack! ❤️
1 egg
1/2 cup oil
Splash of vinegar
Pinch of salt
Sprig of dill

Our Story
Free Food Foragers is a ‘Mum run’ grass roots initiative that started 4 years ago with a simple moment of gardeners frustration. While pulling out endless w**ds from the garden and getting covered in sticky w**d, I asked “You pain of a plant, you have to be good for something more than sticking to my clothes?”
This started my research, when I discovered this sticky w**d otherwise known as Cleaver was in fact an edible w**d and had great health benefits, a passion for more was ignited and it never stopped.
Before I knew it is was endlessly prattling on to my family about it with “did you know you can eat this… and it does this for you…”
Eventually my Partner in crime Misha said to me “find someone who does want to hear about your wild food stuff cause it’s great and all but I’m sick of hearing about it, I’ll eat it but I don’t want to hear about how good it is for me!”
This was how Free Food Foragers came to be, I thought to myself that he was right, I would find someone who wanted to hear about it and maybe my hobby can become my business.
After 3 years of research, foraging and homestead life living off the land we have reduced our food bill by over 50% from foraging, growing our own produce and keeping livestock.
It’s not all life on the Prairie nice and easy lifestyle, in fact it’s hard, time consuming work trying to balance living off the land with modern lifestyles and a young son who’s been with us on this journey all the way.
Now we run workshops regularly with great success, teaching others to forage and remove invasive w**d edibles from the wild and add them to their menu!
This blog is to share with you the trials and triumphs our continuing journey has to offer. It’s a brutally honest and sometimes funny account of our weird and wonderful family adventures with some helpful hints thrown in along the way.
