Visiting Bali Indonesia in 1974 and living there in 1977 was an eye opening experience. Much of the culture is in tact you just got to get out of Kuta. Potong gigi - the tooth filing ceremeony, life and death ceremonies, visit the Elephant Cave, pause for Nyepi the awe-inspiring a great day of reflection, meditation, contrasting and at time confronting for many western people with Penampahan.... slaughter day. The wafting music has a pentatonic scale (5 notes make up the scale) and once heard, you will remember the chants supporting the kecak dance.
