Are you a morning person who loves to watch a beautiful sunrise, or do you prefer to see the sunset at the end of the day? If you visit Whitby you can wander up to the west cliff and be lucky enough to experience both. 🌅

Whitby, despite being on the East coast actually faces due North, and its geography can seem quite confusing without having a map to hand. It is one of the only places where at certain times of the year you can see the sun rise and set over the sea. It’s stunning ☀️

If you’re up for a walk whilst staying at Croft Cottage this is a really nice walk to do.
The track starts at the railway line in Ruswarp, turn right of the cottage and head to the train crossing you will see a foot path to Whitby. The walk is (Approx half hour)⏱️, the gate is on the left hand side of the track near the old railway house as you go over the track you will see the white gate to your left. Follow the path along to Whitby, under the viaduct you can stop and look at the views of the river. Possibly see the steam train ! 🚂 in the summer month’s.
The path brings you to the long stay car park in Whitby, if you follow the path beside the car park it will eventually bring you to the centre of Whitby . Harbour on your right hand side🛥️ . Pls ask if your not sure..
You can go a couple of ways back to Ruswarp or follow the same path back.
Simple and enjoyable walk especially if the train is running. 🛤️.
