Jocastro was started in 1969 by Mr. The company first started manufacturing panels and switchboards for South Wales Electric as a sub-contractor. In 1974 Jocastro was formed and started manufacturing panels, switchboards and junction boxes for Eskom. Since 1974 the company has grown from strength to strength. Between 1975 and the early 1990’s, Jocastro became the biggest manufacturer of Phase 1 re
lay panels in South Africa with Eskom being the main client. During the 1980’s Jocastro repeatedly won the Eskom National Contract for junction boxes, relay panels and AC boards, on a competitive basis and in effect became the sole supplier of these items to Eskom for a number of years. ROTARY SWITCHES IS BORN
In 1980 the company Rotary Switches was established and formed part of the emerging Jocastro group of companies. This company manufactured self-wiping rotary switches used in the various panels and junction boxes, etc. Rotary switches were supplied to all the other manufacturers of panels in the country as well. The switch technology and initial infrastructure was purchased “voetstoots” from Germany. Rotary Switches was expanded in 2000 and the name changed to Lucy Rotary Switches. The product line of the new company was expanded to include 11kV ring oil main units, extensible & non-extensible range. Jocastro Switch-Boards cc, a black empowerment wing of Jocastro (Pty) Ltd was formed in 1995 to comply with Eskom’s BEE policies. NEW PARTNERSHIPS
In 2002 Jocastro was approached by FKI switchgear in the UK to manufacture their Eclipse Vacuum Switchgear under licence and became the agents for Hawker Siddeley UK in South Africa, also specializing in Auto Reclosers, DC lightning Switchgear and Outdoor Vacuum Breakers. In 2008 Jocastro formed an agency with Tianan of Ningbo to distribute their range of (Power Transformers,) Medium and High Voltage Switchgear, Drop out Fuse Links, HV Fuses and Overhead Line Equipment in South Africa. Jocastro has been transforming rapidly as a business. One of the these instrumental changes would be its full BBBEE compliance which provides a strong foundation to build transformation, which is key to developing the business as part of the company’s long term strategy to be sustainable and contribute to the economic growth of South Africa.
