Approach the Cape mountains in a whole new way. There are easily accessible climbing routes only a 15 minute drive from Kommetjie at the Silvermine Nature Reserve.

Pictured here is the Lower Silvermine crag with an easy climb on a fun climb called Flakes and on a more ambitious grade 22 called Alpha & Omega.

It’s quite something to live 500 meters from the beach and have mountains only a few minutes away.

Only a 15 minute drive from Kommetjie and you reach the local fishing harbour of Kalk Bay. If it’s a local experience you’re after then you don’t get a more Capetonian experience than this. Kalky’s fish n chips are excellent served simply in a big cardboard box and eaten on the wooden tables outside. If you’re after a more discerning meal then head across the carpark to Harbour House, Live Bait or Tigers Milk - all have stunning ocean views and a menu to choose a fabulous meal. The main attraction are the bright vibrant colours of the boats and the Harbour wall filled with fishermen and families at sunset. Head down and meet the locals while you eat your fish ‘n chips. You won’t regret it!
