Happy penguin news! π§β€π§β€π§ The South African Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment has announced that he will use his Ministerial powers to end a legal challenge and settle the dispute around fishing rights versus penguin protection.
The Minister has instructed department lawyers to settle the matter and secure the penguinsβ fish diet for years to come. This refers to the widely supported litigation launched in March 2024 by @birdlife_sa and @sanccob π§β€π§β€π§β€
Chobe National Park is known for its large herds of elephants. An estimated 70 000 individuals live in this park.

A group from @blindeforbundet in Norway visited South Africa in October. They were so inspired by meeting kids in Masiphumelele that they wanted to help start a soccer project β½οΈβ½οΈβ½οΈ with @masi_creative_hub

The magnificent Walker Bay has been home to our human ancestors for at least 60 000 years.
We walked through the white sanddunes and spotted Southern right whales π breaching! These whales migrate between the Antarctic and the southern coastlines of South Africa, South America and Australia.
Picnic lunch on the beach was a lovely surprise π€©βπͺ before we entered the Klipgat Caves, where our ancestors lived in Middle and Late Stone Age.

We walked through the beautiful old Milkwood forest, a large area between Stanford and Gansbaai, from where @grootbos got its name.
Our knowledgeable guide Christoff explained that scientist have identified over 150 species of moss in this forest!
@grootbos grows a lot of its own vegetables, microgreens and fruit, which you'll get to taste every evening on the @diversitytrail
Up close with a Cape Lappet Moth Caterpillar, the medicinal Cancer Bush, pretty Pincushions, the always-amazing King Proteas in bud and other fabulous fynbos on @grootbos which covers 4000 hectars in the southern Overberg.
It must have been close to 30 degrees today... we cooled off in the the dam ππΌββοΈ and recharged before walking into the old, mystical Afromontane forest.
Smiles all around πππ when we were picked up and driven back to our tranquil accommodation oasis.

Fernklood Nature Reserve covers 18 square kilometers above the northern side of #Hermanus. Many trails were still closed because of rock slides caused by the storm that hit the Cape coast at the end of September.
We hiked to Lemoenkop and enjoyed spectacular views over Walker Bay π€© We also got up close with the area's magnificent #fynbos vegetation πΈπΎ More than 1250 plant species have been identified in this reserve.
