This place needs little introduction - Fish on the Rocks is Cape Town’s iconic fish and chips plug 🔌
They've been around for decades in Hout Bay, and if you frequent you know that seagulls are regular customers too 😝
Nested on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Fish on the Rocks offers affordable seafood with a bustling environment.
Always busy with people, it is one of the most visited spots in Cape Town, and one of our favourites.
Whether you want the tried and tested, but never disappointing, hake and chips, or the other options (like prawns/calamari), you won't go wrong.
We usually get the hake and prawns and have never been disappointed.
The little things stand out with Fish on the Rocks.
Its location ✅, the ordering process (messy but fun) ✅, the little cups of ketchup (we love this haha) ✅, the always-full spaces ✅, the big portions ✅.
The views are also splendid, as is the vibe.
If you visit on Saturday, there is a weekend market right across that sells locally made artefacts, clothing, ice cream and other food options.
We recommend making enough time to also take pictures of the panoramic views of Chapman’s Peak, visiting the canons across and walking along the road to see artists paintings.

We are not the most natural painters but we reaaaally love painting since it’s therapeutic and instantly relaxing.
Most of the options out there are not suitable for non-alcohol drinkers or people with children, but we finally found an option that works for us with the Paint and Pretzel team.
We had a splendid time and will definitely be back very soon!
As the name suggests, you get to paint while munching on yummy pretzels.
So, what should you expect?
Upon arrival, you will be given a canvas, some water paints, an apron to keep you clean and, of course, pretzels!
Our instructor, Gabby, was absolutely lovely and warm from the start. She guided us through the entire process, encouraging us to get creative and offering support at every step.
If you are new to the art world like us, don’t worry - the class is simple to follow and you get to embrace imperfection all the way.
Our favourite part was mixing two primary colours to create a new one - it was like magic with our brushes 😍
We found the experience perfect for a date with your partner or bonding with friends.
The experience offered by Paint and Pretzels is also affordable and easy on the wallet.
For just R495pp, you get all of the above, plus a meal! If you want to opt out of the meal, you can choose the R395pp ticket.
Their team moves around different spots so you also get to try different cuisines and explore new spots.
Just be sure to share any allergies and your meal preference beforehand with their team.
Paint and Pretzels also assist with functions or team events, we could see ourselves hiring them for a nice bonding experience to break the ice.
It's an incredibly unique, therapeutic, and fun way to spend a day! It's also rainy day friendly 🤗

Voted the best adventure experience in the Cape by KFM, the Ceres Railways company offers one of the best trips to the Elgin Market on their vintage locomotives that have stood the test of time. If you love trains like we do, this one is not an experience to miss.
NB: We did this in winter, and it is likely that summer timings are different.
The journey will take you intricately through the mountains and hills, offering breathtaking views to be cherished. A train ride lasts for an entire day, starting at 07:45. You need to reach there beforehand at about 07:20 to get allocated to your cabin by the train master.
If you have a car, there is dedicated covered parking offered by the Harbour Bridge Hotel. At the time of writing this post, this was entirely free of charge. You may get a ticket but the boom gate is open when you are leaving. Alternatively, you can park in the unshaded parking too.

If you're visiting Cape Town and you want to understand more about all the different foods and cultures, this is the perfect experience for you.
You'll spend half a day at a wonderfully homey house, with two ladies who will guide you through assisting them in preparing an authentic, three course Cape Malay style meal.
They share so many little things with you about the culture, the food taste, and what the little things mean.
Of course, we are familiar with a lot of these things but we still had a really great time! Lots of fun conversations and a very nice way to spend a Sunday morning.
Our booking was also super hassle free because we booked through @getyourguide , and it was not even a 5 minute process.
We love how they have all these experiences in one place - we've got a bunch of wishlisted ones and then we just add to cart and book!

We started off with coffee and dessert at @mischucoffee, where they also had some fun games for us to set the mood!
Then, we headed to @puttputtsa where for less than R100 (total), we played a round of mini golf!
Highly recommend this as a fun way to unwind and spend some time together - you don't spend too much and you'll catch a sunset too! 😍🌇

Take advantage of the weekend sun and go for a short but rewarding hike 😍 You won’t even find this route on popular apps like All Trails.
Woodstock Cave is a short and super easy with breathtaking views so make sure to save this post!
The route starts along Tafelberg Road. You will need to drive to the very end, past the Table Mountain Cable Car (@tablemountainca) entrance/waiting line, until you see barricades for cars; there is parking right before you reach this point. Parking gets filled up quite quickly so we suggest getting there bright and early, before 8 am for a winter morning hike.
Once parked, walk through the barricades on the tarred road (that hasn’t been maintained for a while). You will see some potholes and broken rocks, nothing unsafe though and easy to walk on. Keep walking until you see the clear signage point where it says “Woodstock Cave”.
Take a slight right and then follow the path up. There is good signage after 15 minutes, showing the directions from Rhodes Memorial and to Woodstock Cave.
Our total hiking time, one way, was about 45 mins with around 10 mins of stops. The end of the hike will be a bit slippery because of the water, so take good shoes with grips and be careful.
The hike is not taxing at all, there are some steep points but it levels out well.
At the end of it all, you get to enjoy the scenic views of the city; making it another best-bang-for-buck hike. So ditch those long routes to this beautiful hike because beauty should not take that long to access 😉
