🦎 Snake Safety Tips for Hiking Table Mountain 🦎

At Cape Mountain Guides, your safety is our top priority! When hiking the beautiful Table Mountain, it’s important to stay alert and know how to stay safe around the local wildlife, especially snakes.

Here are some essential tips to keep in mind when you're out exploring:

Stay on the Path 🥾
Snakes prefer to stay hidden in tall grass and underbrush. Stick to well-trodden paths to reduce your chances of encountering one.

Wear Sturdy Footwear 👟
Protect your feet and legs with thick boots or shoes, which will provide some protection if you do happen to get too close to a snake.

Watch Your Step ⚠️
Always look where you’re stepping, especially near rocks, crevices, or under low-hanging branches. Snakes are excellent at blending in with their surroundings!

Be Calm & Stay Still 🧘‍♂️
If you spot a snake, remain calm and back away slowly. Don’t attempt to handle or provoke it. Most snakes are not aggressive and will retreat if left undisturbed.

Keep Your Distance 📏
If you see a snake on the trail, give it plenty of space to move on. A good rule of thumb is to keep a distance of at least 3 meters.

Know the Local Species 🐍
