Cape Town welcomes worldwide Groundwater Resource Professionals - IAH 50th Worldwide Groundwater Congress in Cape Town!
This week, the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) hosts the IAH 50th Worldwide Groundwater Congress, focusing on the crucial theme "Groundwater: A Matter of Scale." The congress will be attended by global scientists, geologists, ecologists, water managers, and other professionals dedicated to groundwater resource planning, management, and protection. This is particularly crucial given the dire water situation experienced in 2017 and early 2018 when water levels in the dams supplying the city reached dangerously low levels.
The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH/AIH) is at the forefront of this sector, dedicated to the scientific advancement and educational mission of understanding and safeguarding groundwater resources worldwide. Preserving this invaluable resource for current and future generations is the association's main aim.
We are proud of the local organising committee that comprise leading scientific and education professionals of the IAH South Africa in their various fields of study. The sector works together in to promote research and an understanding of the proper management and protection of groundwater for the common good of the country. This is especially true to the Western Cape with its unique floral kingdom as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to its large coastal aquifers to improve water quality. All these topics address areas of sustainable water management for the future.
The congress will also be attended by members of the Early Career Hydrogeologists' Network (ECHN) providing a forum for hydrogeologists at the start of their professional or academic careers.
Wishing all the delegates a fruitful and productive conference over the next few days!

"Our interest is the impact of lightning on humanity and, not only on human lives but industry, society and how we manage the risk associated with lightning. With the beauty of Cape Town and the excellent services of the Cape Town & Western Cape Convention Bureau, I cannot think of a more fitting and beautiful place to host the 36th International Conference on Lightning Protection for the first time on the African continent" states Ian Jandrell, University of the Witwatersrand and the chairperson of the 36th International Conference on Lightning Protection 2022.
Cape Town will be hosting the 36th International Conference on Lightning Protection at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 02- 07 October 2022.
This conference has become the largest biennial conference that forms a global platform where the academic and industry giants of lightning protection come together and exchange scientific and technological knowledge through presentations, discussions, workshops, and exhibitions. This will be the first time this conference will be taking place on the African continent.

Cape Town and the Western Cape extends a warm welcome to delegates of the 3rd WCoP - World Conference on Pharmacometrics.
Africa accounts for 15% of the global population and 25% of the global disease burden: yet only produces about 2% of the world’s research output and holds only 0.1% of the world’s patents. Research and development pipelines for the diseases that disproportionately affect African countries are grossly inadequate.
While some view this as a challenge, Pharmacometrics Africa (SA) see this as an opportunity to attract more collaborations to Africa and are the proud hosts of this event.
We wish the delegates a fruitful conference over the next few days.
Once done with the science, why don't visit the sights.
