CPT Jazz Festival postponed
10 Jan 2023

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), originally scheduled to take place from March 17-18 2023, has been postponed to the following year, and should take place February 23-24, 2024.

A series of unavoidable delays and unforeseen challenges, as well as uncertainties around the future of loadshedding, have negatively impacted the planning of the festival for this year.

The event organisers, espAfrika, after consultation with stakeholders, felt it was better to reschedule the 21stcelebration of the CTIJF until 2024, to deliver a show that does justice to the CTIJF brand.

All festivalgoers who have purchased tickets from Ticketmaster may either retain them or obtain a full refund from Ticketmaster.co.za. Please visit this link: https://help.ticketmaster.co.za/hc/en-us

Pride Month: SA most LGBT-friendly country in Africa
10 Jun 2022 - by Molly Jackson

South Africa is the safest country in Africa for LGBTQ+ travellers in terms of legal rights, anti-discrimination laws, adoption recognition, and trans legal identity laws. The rest of Africa, meantime seems to be falling behind, with more than 20 countries receiving low ratings for LGBTQ+ traveller safety.

This is according to the LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index, which Asher & Lyric – a family and travel journalism blog and news source – created by ranking 203 countries with available data, and then carefully examining LGBTQ+ rights for each country.

The Table Bay celebrates silver
06 Jun 2022

May was a big month for The Table Bay hotel in Cape Town. Not only did bookings steadily increase as the tourism sector recovered, but it also marked the hotel’s 25th birthday.

Sun International’s iconic hotel was officially opened by Nelson Mandela on May 30, 1997. Since, then the property has become an icon of elegance and luxury, acquiring a string of local and international accolades over the years for its service excellence.

In 1997, some people questioned why a premium hotel would be built in a working harbour, as then, the V&A Waterfront was a long way from the bustling, world-famous destination it is today.

01 Jun 2022

Formula One is in "serious" negotiations with Kyalami Race Track to bring the sport back to South Africa, as it works to finalise its 2023 calendar, reports racing news publication, Racer.

Although it is most likely that South Africa will only be added to the schedule in 2024, there is a possibility of this happening as early as next year.

The last South African Grand Prix took place in 1993 at the circuit, with F1 not having raced on the African continent since then.

F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, intends to travel to South Africa next week for further discussions, according to Racer.

The racetrack is currently not yet an FIA ‘Grade 1’ Circuit, and to achieve this, further renovations will need to be completed.
