🐟Know Your MPA🐟

There are numerous beautiful beaches inside the Table Mountain National Park MPA. The sandy bottoms of beaches provide shelter and feeding opportunities for several unique species, such as burrowing plough snails or filter-feeding surf clams. These animals are also an important food source for seabirds and are harvested for bait to use for fishing.

Beach visits are a good idea for a walk to unwind after a long day at work, or a family fun day, especially during these hot summer months in Cape Town! Some beaches, like Fish Hoek and Camps Bay, are popular for a fun day out. While others like Platboom or Buffels Bay inside Cape offer a more nature-based experience – where you may even see an ostrich on the beach. At 3.6 km, Longbeach in Noordhoek, is the largest beach in the MPA and important for breeding oystercatchers.
