TROPICAL CYCLONE KENNETH FACTS:
1. It has (and continues) to cause extensive damage to parts of the far north-eastern corner of Mozambique.
2. Ibo Island and other islands in the Quirimbas Archipelago are directly underneath its path and local and tourist infrastructure on these islands has been extensively damaged. Heavy rains and flooding will continue for days to come.
3. Pemba City, which is the capital of Cabo Delgado Province and the regional tourism hub, has received a huge amount of rain over the past few days, continuing into the next few days and has been severely affected by flooding. Yesterday the main road into Pemba was cut at Mieze 24kms from Pemba airport. Flights to and from Pemba are still affected so keep in contact with airlines.
4. The area affected is two thousand kilometres north of Mozambique's main tourist destinations (Ponta do Ouro to Vilankulo), so the vast majority of visitors and residents of Mozambique have not been affected at all by Cyclone Kenneth.
