Game experience aside (which is a given), a safari is made complete by its team of staff. By the end of this mobile, I left with a heavy heart feeling like we were family. The same team move with you from one camp to the other, so as we walked into our new camp set up the only thing that changed was the location. We were greeted by the same familiar smiles, my bags were already waiting for me in my tent, they knew my regular tipple, and we carried on with the same camaraderie we had shared in the previous camp. This kind of mobile works brilliantly for families with teenagers who are old enough to get out and explore this area by foot and game drives and helicopter and fully appreciate the adventure. It is totally private for just you and your family and friends. Thank you Simon and for a truly memorable four nights and I look forward to weaving in this experience into many of our clients itineraries to Botswana. Next stop the Makgadikgadi Pans …..

We love to weave a bit of adventure into our clients itineraries, and nothing ticks this box more than peeling off for a few days on a camel walking safari in northern Kenya. We have just been sent these fabulous pictures from one family currently enjoying just that. The wild landscapes, the cultural interaction with their Masai guides, the freedom of camping in the middle of no where all helps to build wonderful memories. About last night …. I was kindly invited to attend the launch of latest six bedroom boutique hotel that adjoins their already successful nine bedroom hotel next door. This is the brain child of a fabulous couple who have created this stylish and contemporary masterpiece in the heart of buzzy Cape Town, a stones throw away from the restaurants and bars of Sea Point. Funky fabrics, beautiful local art on the walls and modern amenities all help to create a warm and welcoming ambiance at the end of a full days sight seeing around the mother city. Not to mention the rather fabulous staff, that help to provide the 🍒 on the top. For those looking for a stylish bolt hole and to soak up the vibe of Cape Town - this one is a gem. (The six bedroom hotel also lends itself to two families travelling together and you get the whole place to yourselves along with private chef). Happy new year! It’s been a wonderfully busy Christmas / new year celebration here in South Africa with family and friends visiting and lots of happy clients now returning home from their Africa holidays that we have organised. It feels good to turn the page and start a fresh new year. Sarah James Travel has just opened up a brand new office in the Winelands (pics to follow soon), we have expanded our team to cope with all the lovely new enquiries flooding in for this year and our daughter Florence has just begun a brand new school year in Grade 3. Family safaris are what we do best. Its what we know and love doing. Nothing thrills us more than to get lovely pics sent to us of our clients on safari. This lovely family spent a week in Kenya split between two camps in Laikipia and the Mara. The smiles say it all - particularly after a fun filled morning at the camps ‘Bush school’!

Every so often I come across a hotel that speaks to my soul. The Dorp Hotel is Cape Towns latest offering - quirky, oozing individual character and style, eccentric, yet at the same time homely and cosy. Situated in the heart of the city in Bo-Kaap with the most sensational views of Table Mountain. It is an interior magazines dream. No children under 14, so it is more suited to an older family or couple. Thank you to Simone and her team for graciously hosting us yesterday. I can’t wait to start including this fabulous property in my clients itineraries. For those that are familiar with Peponis Hotel in Lamu, (which I am a huge fan), you will love this place.

.club - the brain child of my husband Jo Sinfield and his business partner is looking fantastic. The brand new boat houses on the shores of the lagoon are starting to open - thanks to the clever interiors by the talented and . Situated on the shores of Hermanus Lagoon, just outside the quaint village of Stanford and only 2 hours from Cape Town. During the day you can enjoy kayaking, sailing, wild swimming, bird watching, deserted beach walks and whale watching at nearby Gansbaai (July-Nov) and in the evening retreat to the cosy, characterful Club House to enjoy delicious dinners and mingle with other guests. There is a ‘Kids Cabin’ upstairs with Table tennis/Table football/Lego/Games/Doll House/puzzles galore to keep the younger guests entertained allowing the parents to enjoy the bar a bit longer! Game drives are made even more fun when you get to sit on the roof of the vehicle. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy offers 90,000 acres of Big Five game viewing. Fantastic for 🦏 (174 black/white rhino!). We also spent the afternoon watching a pride of 6 🦁

Camel 🐪 riding back from our bush breakfast. The girls loved the novelty of it - endless giggling whilst they were able to spot game in the distance from their newly elevated height.
