Settlers Safaris was founded by Murray Crous in 2002. As a child of six years old he was introduced to hunting by his father. Although based in the MALARIA FREE Eastern Cape of South Africa, we hunt throughout Southern Africa and offer 46 species to be hunted including all of the Big 5.

The second last night we went out for Grysbuck. We searched far and wide but no luck. The windy conditions made it difficult as most of the animals were bedded down. That didn't stop us from having some fun with the "always moving" springhare. Marvin wanted to add a full mount to his collection.
We also got lucky with a Caracal. We spotted the Caracal stalking two bushbuck females and Marvin was quick on the trigger and did some much needed vermin control. You definitely saved a bushbuck from becoming caracal supper.
So we didn't get our grysbuck but we sure had some excitement....

Then it was time to bite the bullet and challenge the windy conditions.
Springbuck hunting is always a challenge in the big open plains. We covered some distance and had several stalks but at the end our hard work paid off. We connected with these beautiful black and white springbuck males. Cheers to Marvin for not giving up although at times we thought we never going to out smart them...

The Red Lechwe. What a stunning animal.
In the windy conditions the animals were always on high alert and difficult to get close to.
Persistence paid off after we connected with this beautiful old Lechwe bull.
A hunt to remember.......

Next on the list was the Waterbuck. After a good stalk we got into a perfect position. All we had to do is wait for the perfect shot.
Once again the waterbuck showed us how tough they can be. With two well placed shots the majestic animal went down.
This old warrior fought to the end.
Just look at the warn down tips,thickness of the horns and character at the bases.
Absolute superb thropy to take....

So our hunt continues into the mountains, where we hunted the vaal rhebuck and mountain reedbuck. A challenging hunt with huge reward. I do recommend this to any serious hunter looking to hunt the stunning mountains of the eastern-cape. Marvin really deserved these beautiful animals after all the hours he put in up and down mountain.
Big congratulations to a dedicated hunter that never gave up.

The Blue duiker. Part of the tiny 10.
We hunt the blue duiker in the thick coastal bush of the Eastern cape of South Africa.
We use a shotgun to give the hunter the best chance of hitting this flying target when it bolts from bush to bush.
One of the biggest Trophies any hunter can add to their collection.... Well done on some great shooting Marvin.

What a spectacular animal. The Cape bushuck from the Eastern Cape.
One of the most elusive animals in Africa and one of the most rewarding! Here we have one of the oldest bushbuck I have ever seen,how it's still alive, is a miracle. His colour has faded,he has lost condition and he had no more teeth left. The most impressive feature is look how those horns have been worked down. In my books the full package "Trophy bushbuck"

When out hunting in the mountains of South Africa you face some challenges from time to time.
When you spot a bushbuck and it's a little further than what you're comfortable with shooting at...you either give it a go or walk away. In this instance the client took a chance and it resulted it a magnificent bushbuck ram down.

What an amazing day in Africa..when Mother Nature shows off in this manner we can only stop and show our appreciation.
After the clouds rolled in our visibility was less than 20m so we packed up and went for early lunch with a bbq/braai in the comfort of a nice warm lodge. Early afternoon we set out for the sable we spotted in the morning and within an hour we were back on him. We managed to stalk up close and with one well placed double lung shot the monster went down. A huge congratulations to our client and his absolute beaut of a sable.

What an experience hunting these mountain sheep. They are found in the mountains 4 hours North of our base camp. They have incredible eyesight and blend in perfectly into the rocky terrain.
Babery sheep..... what a challenging hunt it was.

Day 1: We went for gold with this absolute tank of a Roan. One shot on the money is all it took to bring this big boy down.

Another successful day for the dogs. It's an absolute adrenaline rush when the dogs start working the bushpig. The sound is out of this world........ congrats to the hunters. It took quick shooting and responsibility, always having the dogs in sight before pulling the trigger.

Today was pig day with a beautiful trophy white blesbuck to mix things up.
The weather has been lovely and that brings the pigs out. We definitely took advantage of it with a few cull warthog in the salt.

Another absolute amazing buffalo hunt. It's never easy in the coastal bush but we made it happen.
After hard work it resulted in a experience that we will never forget.

We finally got our old buffalo cow down. This specific animal was fighting with the other buffalo on the property and also injuring some buffalo calves. After a good few hours of searching and scouting we finally spotted her and managed to put in a good stalk that resulted in a magnificent shot. Big congratulations.

What a challenging stalk. We were actually after kudu but we got busted so we continued with the hunt and eventually we got rewarded with a very impressive impala

Day two and we still after the "Grey Ghost of Africa" In the gale force winds the kudu were hiding down in the valleys so that's where we went looking for them. After glassing a deep valley overlooking a dam it wasn't long before we spotted this beautiful old Eastern Cape Kudu at 330m. We found a good opening and took the shot....the rest was history...The kudu went straight down....what a shot!
