Natia and I had an amazing trip to Thailand to celebrate this year’s fantastic hunting season. As the sun sets on this adventure, the next one begins. I have one last Cape Buff hunt for the year, but when you’re doing what you love, it feels like you’re on vacation every day!

Recently bought another piece of maintenance equipment for the farm ⚒️
At least that’s the excuse I gave my wife 😅Poor Natia, she’s going to be grey by the next hunting season if I keep finding new projects to start every time the dust settles from the previous one. I know there may be some jokes coming my way about starting a construction company if the safari business doesn’t work out, but I’ll take it! 🚧👷

It’s happening!👩🏻‍🍳
So many of our clients have suggested that Natia should bring out her own Cook Book…and she’s decided to finally do it! We’ll be including some of the “classics” that are always a hit at the lodge. If you have a favourite dish that you want us to include, make sure to let us know what it is!

Too special not to share. This photo was taken 7 years ago today on a hunting trip that my daughter, Louise, joined me on. It was over 40 C/104 F outside and we had been hunting Buff since 5 that morning to evade the worst of the heat. On our way back to camp, we came across this beautiful little church in Micaune, Mozambique. Of course, we had to hop off and pose for a photo to capture the moment🇲🇿Happy days!

I remember the nights us boys spent with our dad camping next to the Zambezi river. The excitement on our hunting trips was always so high that I struggled to fall asleep. Thinking back, that could partly be due to the Tsetse fly and mosquito bites that always seemed to itch more at night 🧐
Anyway, it was always my dream to be able to share that same love for the outdoors and hunting with my kids that my father shared with us.
Luckily, my kids always jumped at the chance to tag along on adventures with us.
Some of our most amazing memories were made out in the bush. I vividly remember looking back while trekking through a swamp section North of the Zambezi in Mahimba, Mozambique and seeing JP Jr. and Louise keeping pace with us in their little camouflage outfits. When we had them pose for a photo later that day after JP got his Waterbuck, I couldn’t help but think how proud my dad would have been to see that his passion had been passed down to another generation. The Legacy Continues…

For us folks over 40, it might be necessary to do a double take in order to see both of the giraffes in this picture.
But there’s a more important detail to be spotted🔍👶
Giraffes have a lengthy gestation period, but we estimate that she’s about 6 months along already! That means we have more than enough time to think of a name. The parents are named Sky and Dawn. Any suggestions?

I know I shouldn’t pick favourites, but the Cape Buffalo is my absolute favourite animal to hunt. Hands down!
That may seem contradictory, as a VERY close encounter with one almost cost me my life a little over 3 years ago. But, when you’re working with wild animals, the risk is part and parcel of the job.
Every encounter with the “Black Death” has the potential to go south. That thrill is what sets it apart.
Nothing compares to the feeling of stalking a massive Buffalo bull, keeping low to the ground. Heart pounding. Blood rushing in your ears. Treading carefully so the snap of a twig doesn’t alert him of your presence.
A pure adrenaline rush! I hope I’m able to hunt buffalo until I am 80 years old.

Taking a trip down memory lane…
What a pleasure it was to welcome our friends back for another safari, 20 years later! Just goes to show-a friendship forged around a campfire after a long day of hunting, never fades!
They joined us to finish off their plains game list and of course, to snag some big, old Buffalo bulls (which I’ll share with you on here soon)👏🏆
I’ve included some photos from the first trip too, so everyone can clearly see we all haven’t aged one bit over the years😉

I want to thank everyone for the incredible support, encouragement and the countless thoughts and prayers that you have shared with us throughout Natia Kleinhans mom’s battle with cancer. It is with deep, deep sadness that I have to share, we will be laying our mom to rest.

Our hearts are broken. The world has lost an incredible woman, but heaven has gained an angel. She will always be remembered as an amazing mother, grandmother and mentor to all. And for sure the most beautiful person, inside and out. Words cannot begin to describe how much she will be missed. Thanks again to everyone for the continuous support, encouragement and prayers.

Today, I was privileged enough to guide William on his first African hunt. It’s been a cold, windy day but this champ did a fantastic job and snagged a beautiful Blue Wildebeest🏆

Seeing this young hunter filled with excitement and adrenaline brought back so many memories. I found myself thinking back to JP Jr.’s first Buffalo in Mozambique at 8 years old. After this photo was taken, we joked that he was barely taller than the rifle.

Well, I’ll tell you one thing: these young men are built differently. They might not be so much taller than their rifles, but they sure know how to hunt and damn it-they are good shots! Well done, William. I hope that the excitement I was a part of today, never goes away👏

These exceptional ivory tips are a textbook example of what to look out for when spotting a mature bull🏆
Upon closer inspection, this bull had no teeth left. This was for sure the last winter that he would have endured, but judging from how polished those tips are-he definitely gave the bush a run for its money over the years!

Hunting a big old Cape Buffalo is always a fantastic experience, but it’s even better when you have an old friend by your side. Dalton Bannister and I have had some of the greatest adventures together. That includes last week, when we guided three different buffalo hunts together. Talk about living the dream!
