Remember our Great Train Race on the 2nd of January? We now have 2 Bentley's in the race! Be sure to make a turn for this event!

On Thursday, 2 January 2025, we are making history once again! ๐Ÿš‚โœจ Harry & Karl will be bringing their Bently's to Hartenbos Station at 11am. At 12pm, Sylvia (also built in 1930) will depart Hartenbos for Grootbrak at the same time as the 2 Bentley's!

Who do you think will be first in Grootbrak with a cocktail in hand? ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿš˜ Be sure to come and capture some epic photos ๐Ÿ“ธ and book your spot on this unforgettable trip!

๐Ÿ’ซ The History Behind the Race:
In 1930, on the glamorous French Riviera, a legendary bet was made. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿ’Ž Pl***oy millionaire Woolf โ€œBabeโ€ Barnato, heir to South African diamond magnate Barney Barnato, took up a daring challenge after Rover claimed its car had beaten the famous Train Bleu in a race from Cannes to Calais. Confident in his Bentley, Barnato wagered ยฃ100 (a fortune at the time!) that he could outpace the train. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ
The following morning, the race was on! Barnato roared through France in his 180bhp Bentley, facing challenges like a punctured tire, fuel shortages, and stormy weather. Despite the odds, he reached central London just minutes before the Train Bleu arrived in Calais.
The story didnโ€™t end there โ€“ French authorities were livid! ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท They fined Barnato a hefty sum and banned Bentley from the Paris Motor Show for promoting the race. But the tale of this iconic car and its daring driver lives on, capturing hearts and imaginations ever since. ๐Ÿโœจ

After six long years, the steam locomotive Sylvia has been reunited with the men who helped bring her back to life - renowned steam fitter Bobby Rudman, Clive Holliday and their team.
The reunion,
which took place this past month at the Voorbaai loco depot, was a
poignant moment in the world of South African steam.

The revival of Sylvia is a celebration not only for railway enthusiasts but for the community of the Garden Route, where the locomotive has become a symbol of the country's industrial heritage. As Sylvia belched steam and let out her familiar whistle, it was clear that this reunion was a moment of deep personal significance for Rudman & Holliday, who had spent countless hours under her frame, ensuring that every bolt was in place and every valve was tuned to perfection.

Now, as Sylvia rolls again, her journey is far from over. The restoration may have been
completed, but the love and care poured into her will ensure that she continues to inspire
generations to come.

Thanks to Bobby Rudman, Clive Holliday, Dehan Marรฉ, Brian Mohammed, Jacques Marรฉ and the late David Breytenbach, Sylvia is not just a relic of the past โ€” she is a living,
breathing piece of history, and the sound of her whistle will echo through the railway tracks of the Garden Route for years to come.

Sylvia should be ready for service during next week! She will do the remainder of the season trips to Grootbrak from Hartenbos!
