Hurlyvale Park is located in Edenvale which is the East side of Joburg. Considered a smaller park, it is nice and quite. It has a small stream with many trees including Willow trees along the bank.

Brauhaus Afrika.
R24 between Rustenburg and JHB, Rustenburg, 0350

Although not exactly in Johannesburg, Brauhaus Afrika is about an hour away from Joburg. Its in between the city of Johannesburg and the city of Rustenburg.
This German Brewery (Pub and restaurant) nestled in the middle of nowhere, with open fields overlooking the Magaliesburg mountains and Olifantsnek dam, this is the perfect restaurant to take a drive out to and spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

This immense building boasts a lot of space and seating areas as well as a large patch of grass in front of the outside deck area. It provides an amazing view into the distance while one catches up and enjoys a cold one. For the little ones a kiddies play area is provided.

It has its own distillery as well as its own deli and coffee roaster– so grab and authentic German beer and and do some grocery shopping while you are there.

For all members of the Parkrun community out there – did you know that Brauhaus also hosts a Parkrun? For more info on what is a Parkrun. https://www.parkrun.com/

Events are definitely a part of the the Brauhaus culture from Beer Festivals to Oktoberfest to Fathers Day and Markets – their spacious lawn is but the perfect place to host events.
The menu consists of your regular breakfasts, salads, platters burgers, steak, pizzas and of course authentic German food and beer.

Cowboy Town

Traveling to the far west of Johannesburg (no pun intended), we come across this charming western themed outdoor market/shopping centre. Cowboy town is such a unique experience that is right on our doorstep in the outskirts of Krugersdorp, the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon with family and friends. Spend the day at one the many rustic restaurants for a nice cold one or two. Shop around at the many stalls and trinkets on offer while listening to live music. Cowboy Town offers the perfect backdrop for photo and social media enthusiast as well as a great destination for bikers on their Breakfast Run.

Sorcery Coffee Roasters.
3 Diep in die berg, Wapadrand, Pretoria.

So we are not exactly in Johannesburg, we are in Pretoria which is another city in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The city of Pretoria is the closest city to Johannesburg about 66km from each other.

Why not take an abandoned building on a hill and turn it into a coffee shop? Why not use the look and feel of an abandoned building to its fullest potential?
Sorcery Coffee Roasters did just that.
Walking into a time capsual laden with modern touches, one can enjoy a good quality cup of coffee and a tasty snack with a view to match. Overlooking the valley one is treated with the site of a castle in the near distance.
A simple menu consisting of baked goods, pizza and toasties.
Be sure to get yourself a bag or 2 of their amazing coffee along with some interesting looking coffee mugs.

Red Bull Showrun - Formula 1
Katherine Street Sandton

Formula 1 has made its way to the streets of Sandton in Johannesburg. Its a chance for people to get up close and personal to a real Formula 1. Walking into the event one is blasted with the sounds of high performing engines of both Formula 1 and drift cars. Drivers from local and international grounds blessed the tar with their amazing driving/drifting skills. The lounds sounds of engines and commentator's created much excitement with the the audience, an audience size of about 20 000 people. Both drifting and Formula 1 cars driving up and down Katherine Street for all to see and marvel.

An unfortunate story regarding South Africa and Formula 1. It is sad to know that the last Formula 1 race ever held on the African continent was in 1993. The reason comes down to money. It is rumored that the Kyalami Race track in Johannesburg along with South African Government simply do not have the funds to keep the race track up to Formula 1 standards. The financial feasibility to host a Formula 1 in your country is also a major hindrance. A hefty price tag of about $55 million is what it takes to host an event.

With all said and done, I am hoping that one day South Africa will be able to host a Formula 1 event again after so many years.
The Red Bull Showrun I believe was a "3rd option". If we can't host a proper event then lets create another event in which is affordable and people can still experience F1 in a different way.
