The Hike
Between 2 to 4 hours daily - up & down thousands of stairs. The route is mountainous & exposed as there is very little shade. Toilets on the hike itself are basic & spread out so you will have to make use of nature itself. The hike is not a race enjoy the scenery at a pace you are comfortable with. If you suffer from Vertigo please consult your Doctor before booking. Food is basic but filling - bread, rice, noodles, meat & veg. We suggest you pack enough snacks for the duration of the hike. Do not drink the tap water. Two bottles of water are included on the hike. Accommodation here is basic, small but adequate (see in gallery). Blankets are provided but as nights are cold in October maybe bring along a sleeping bag. Limited phone & WiFi will be available on the hike. Facebook & Google are blocked in China. Level of walking moderate to intermediate. Cable Cars are available at certain sections so if you want to come along as a supporter this is an option. We recommend that you change currency before departure especially for the rural areas where they will only accept Chinese Yuan. ATM's are available. Check with your bank which machines to use.
Beijing
We ask that you bring along a blanket for a baby & a packet of nappies. This will be donated to the New Hope Foster Home in Beijing. The home provides medical treatment & palliative care for orphans in China. 98% of abandoned children in China have disabilities. *Waiting confirmation of visit to orphanage*. Experience the sights, sounds & smells of Beijing both day & night.
Training
You need to be physically fit to do this hike. Work on your stamina, leg & joint strength & balance. Practice walking up & down stairs & familiarize yourself with walking on rugged terrain. While training you need to carry a backpack for 3 hours for 3 days. Eat healthy & exercise. Stop Smoking. Get Fit!
Fundraising Ideas
Find sponsors for every hour you hike or work on approx kms - 15
Make a Facebook Group & tell everyone what you are doing & why & ask for donations - do a free website. Host a Christmas in July & charge R500 for traditional Xmas dinner. Host a Cheese & Wine, Quiz, Dinner & Dance, Day at the Races or Bowling Day. An Afternoon Hi-Tea and even a Swear Jar.
Luggage
Please bring along a rucksack & travel holdall. Luggage will be locked up at the hotel in Beijing which we will collect on our rerturn as we stay in the same hotel.
