Botswana tops it for game again! We had fighting lions chasing 4 young males out of the pride and killing one of them, Lionesses of another pride chasing off an interloping male and calling in their own 2 pride males as backup, a lioness with tiny cubs stashed away and much more. Amazing! Oh yes, the 4 dejected males paid me a visit in the night and sniffed my tent, chewed up a water bottle and buggered off!

I have often thought about this when visiting remote Himba villages in Namibia and San villages in remote parts of Botswana, my opinion is that modern medicine is one of the true benefits of the western world to remote and culturally intact civilizations, apart from that, are we really benefiting these villages with our visits and western influences? One has to be culturally sensitive and very careful not to influence these communities negatively.

It's always great to visit the Kruger Park! There is a new initiative where kids are taken into the park from local schools and overnight in the campsite at Shingwedzi. Sponsored by sanparks it aims to create awareness of our natural treasures and foster a sound conservation ethic at an early age, great news!!

This bull must be one of the up and coming great tuskers!! We tried to identify him by the distinctive notch in his left ear but he doesn't fit any of the descriptions of the current big tuskers. To compete an elephant has to have tusks of at least 1.5m from the lip, he did for sure!! What a beaut!! We found him in the southern Kruger close to Crocodile Bridge.
