I wish that photos could capture not only the beauty, but the sounds, smells and all the small things that make this an amazing trip. The sunsets and sunrises in Africa are stunning! You haven’t seen the stars until you have looked into a clear nights sky in Africa. I picked up a set of binoculars for this trip and didn’t think I would get much use out of them, boy was I wrong!

I have packed many miles through the bush and seen so many amazing birds and animals. Most days are 12-14 hours of hunting/work time, leaving little time for anything other than a hot meal, a shower and bed.

There are almost no reptiles out in this cool weather. I have seen Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Impala, Duiker, Steenbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Nyala, Eland, Giraffe, Warthog, Oryx, Sable, Vervet Monkey, Baboon, Aardvark and I’m sure I’m missing a few others.

I am not an avid hunter, but I have some amazing memories in the woods of West Virginia. It’s the connection with nature that drives me to hunt. I hope people understand the conservation efforts this type of hunt brings to the country. Hunters coming to Africa assigns the animals value and gives the people a reason and motivation to care for them. This is the root of the conservation efforts here in South Africa.

Jannie, Hermien and staff took care of our every need. Food was very good and many days we cooked lunch over an open fire in the field. Have no doubt, I will return to Harmonie Safaris!
