We have been exceptionally spoilt to have this fluffy baby Zebra visit us this week. We are sure this babe is a newborn, as they are still grasping the art of walking. Mommy Zebra is so protective of her babe from the rest of the herd, and carefully arranges herself between her babe and passers by.

MAPULA is a private holiday home situated on the southern boundary of renowned Kruger National Park.

Located inside bush suburb Marloth Park, where fences arent allowed and animals roam freely, Mapula is 400m from the Crocodile River. Predators are spotted daily on the banks of this iconic river, where guests to Marloth Park can cook breakfast on skottels or have sundowners with views over Kruger.

Mapula is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom double storey thatch home. Offering two splash pools, a large verandah with sunken in fire pit boma, two upstairs decks, fully airconditioned with back up inverter.

Mapula sleeps 6 in the bedrooms and an additional 5 upstairs- suitable for kids (4 beds and 1 sleeper couch.)

R300 per person per night until 6 people, and thereafter R150 per person until 11 persons.

Our kitchen is double volume, air conditioned and fully equipped with all cutlery and crockery, a dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer, gas oven and stove, kettle and ice machine.

The master bedroom is downstairs, with en suite shower, mosquito net, aircon, and a view over the deck and back garden.

This is where it all happens! Zebra, kudu, wildesbeest, warthog, impala, duiker and bushbuck visit at all hours throughout the day and night, lining up along the side of the verandah.

Our home looks like the typical beautiful original Marloth Park house- facebrick, thatch, wood, african tiles, and all the accessories from the past 4 owners who have owned this special home. The first owners were a French couple, and their collection of masks adorn the double volume kitchen wall. We love to keep the originality of this home, the real bush feeling.

Mapula has two upstairs decks, one covered and the other uncovered. This is the perfect vantage point for late night drinks when the hyenas call, lions roar, and hippos grunt from the Crocodile River just 600m away.

We had visitors at 6.13am this morning! Pity our camera dropped and all we can see is the bottom half 😂🙌🏻

Our outdoor space is our favourite.

Raised off the ground, the kids have space to play and ride toddler bikes without coming into the path of galloping zebras, nosy kudus or grunting warthogs. The firepit seats many, and the splash pool overlooks a fantastic sunset.

Zebras pop past our house daily. I'll never forgot hearing a rumbling sound one late afternoon. I quickly escaped onto the patio where I had the pleasure of witnessing 3 Zebras galloping after each other, over piles of sand, gathering speed on the way down and skidding to a halt, and then around our house and the neighbour's in a figure of 8. They were full of energy and had Zebra zoomies deluxe!

Due to high demand, our little piece of Marloth heaven is busy being prepped for holiday rentals 🐗🦒🦓

Welcome to Mapula, a private holiday house next door to Kruger National Park, located within the bush suburb of Marloth Park, where animals roam free (including leopard and lion, the latter who escape under the fences from Kruger.)

Mapula, meaning Mother of Rain, is the original name of our home. Derived from an old legendary tale, we found this name hanging lopsided on an old engraved plank of wood on our dirt road entrance. I vowed to keep the original name- before I even knew what it may have been! A frame found on the wall under the stairs explained the meaning for us- a beautiful tale of the birth of a baby during heavy rainfall which signalled the end of a drought- a reminder of good health, wealth and prosperity.

Our home was previously owned by three families prior to us, none of whom rented it out. The original family was a French family, and the masks on the kitchen walls are their collection that has been passed down.

Offering three bedrooms and three bathrooms (one en suite), an upstairs loft lounge, two balconies, two splash pools, an undercover patio, and a large fire pit boma, Mapula sleeps 6 in three bedrooms, and an additional 2 in single beds in the loft lounge as well as a sleeper couch for kids. The garden is unfenced and animals pass by daily- including zebra, kudu, warthog, wildebeest, giraffe, and bushbuck and bushbabies at night.

Mapula is located just 600m from the Kruger fence overlooking the Crocodile River. Here leopards and lions are seen almost daily, on the hunt.

NOTE-
Marloth Park is home to predators, and no walking or riding is permitted after 6pm and before 6am.
