The regal Grandfather clock in Torburnlea Homestead has been watching the comings and goings for most of Andrew’s life. It was purchased from an antique shop in the UK near Wales while his parents were visiting the area. The £20 clock dating back to 1803 was shipped back to South Africa for more than it cost and has been in the Hall homes ever since. Andrew remembers the clock being wound up weekly before church and how the moon above the face would follow the phases throughout the month.

Previous Welsh visitors to Torburnlea were even able to recognise its origins by the style of the houses painted around the face.

SOURDOUGH WORKSHOP

This weekend Torburnlea Homestead will be the venue for a workshop by where participants will get their hands dirty learning how to make their very own sourdough bread.

Santi has perfected the process and now shares her knowledge so that others can experience the joy of baking sourdough from scratch.

The cosy farm kitchen is the perfect spot to learn the nuances of baking this type of bread, whereafter the sun-drenched dining room invites participants to enjoy the spoils of their hard work.
