To celebrate International Cheetah Day here are 5 facts about these speedy cats.

1. Nearly all wild cheetahs can be found in sub-Saharan Africa, where they roam open, grassy savannah plains and open forests. A small population lives in northeastern Iran, although only a few dozen remain here.

2. These big cats’ bodies grow to between 1.1m and 1.4m metres long, plus a tail measuring 65cm to 80cm. Their weight ranges from 34kg to 54kg, males being slightly heavier.

3. Cheetahs have a pale yellow coat with black dots on the upper parts, and are white on the underbelly. Their faces are distinguished by prominent, black lines that curve from the inner corner of each eye to the outer corners of the mouth.

4. The fastest land animal in the world, a cheetah can reach 112km/h in just three seconds – that’s faster than a sports car accelerates! Its body has evolved for speed, with long legs, an elongated spine, adapted claws to grip the ground and a long tail for balance.

5. Cheetahs are carnivores and live off other animals they find on Africa’s plains, including rabbits, warthogs, springboks, gazelles and birds.

Here are some fun facts about these beautiful animals.

1. White and black rhinos are actually the same colour
Despite the names, both species of African rhino have a grey skin colour.

2. Rhinos love plants
Rhinos are herbivores (plant-eaters) and have to eat a lot each day to be full.

3. The name rhinoceros means ‘nose horn’
It comes from Ancient Greek words: rhino (nose), ceros (horn).

4. Only elephants are bigger than white rhinos
White rhinos are the second-largest land mammal in the world

5. A crash of rhinos
A group of rhinos is known as a herd, or a crash!

To celebrate these magnificent creatures here are some fun facts.

A vulture is a bird of prey that scavenges on carrion. There are approximately 23 species in the world and of those 23 there are approximately 9 species in South Africa.

Vultures are relatively social birds.

Vultures play a critical role in the ecosystem. They are equipped with a digestive system that gets rid of harmful diseases.

Vultures have a good sense of sight and smell that helps them find carcasses miles away from them. Because of this they often spend time flying high to find their next meal.

Happy World Lion Day! To celebrate today here are some fun facts about these incredible creatures. 1. Lions usually live in groups of 10 or 15 animals called prides. 2. An adult male’s roar can be heard up to 8km away. 3. A female lion needs 5kg of meat a day. A male needs 7kg or more a day. 4. The name for a baby lion is a cub, whelp or lionet. 5. Lions go on the hunt for food mostly from dusk till dawn. Female lions do 85-90% of the prides hunting, whilst the male lions patrol the territory and protect the pride.
