This is what I have been up to these past few weeks!
This is a very special calendar, with an extraordinary story. It is also a tribute to the exceptional people of the Karoo-hamlet De Rust and testament to the resilience of the South African platteland.
Small towns in South Africa are struggling. De Rust is no exception. However, the community of this beautiful town is committed to making a difference to the place and the people. The income garnered by this calendar will be plowed back into the town via local feeding schemes, community projects to clean up the surrounds, and to bring hope to the less fortunate of our town.
How committed are our locals to make a change?
Well, enough for a group of brave and bold male De Rusters to push personal boundaries, face discomfort, overcome fear and perceived prejudice to face the camera without their overalls, shirts and pants. But no need to c**k an eyebrow! The only members on display are chaps from our community. Meet our residents like you will never see them again. They are the ordinary working folk taking an extraordinary leap of faith to help our community – and often to the infinite mirth of their spouses!
You can now own the original De Rust Cocktales calendar, a collection of unusual photographs of our inhabitants and stories of our town. The photographers, Maryna Cotton and Sarel van Staden, are world-renowned for their craft. To boot, the real “c**ktales” are the favourite c**ktail recipes of the local pubs, hotel and homes for you to share and enjoy with your friends.
