African Elephants are the world’s largest land mammal, this makes them the landscape architects of the natural world. They create vast savannahs as well as planting numerous trees.

Elephants are herbivores, which means they eat plant material. The seeds which are in the food that they eat can be dropped in their dung many miles away. Considering elephants can consume up to 300 pounds (140 kilograms) of food and walk on average 50 miles (80 kilometers) per day, they are clearly also natures farmers.

An elephant is pregnant for 22 months. A female elephant can weight about 7500 pounds (3600 kilograms) and a male around 13,000 pounds (6000 Kgs). The male elephant stands about 10 feet tall (3m)

Today we launch our K9 Unit fundraising campaign that supports Rhino Conservation efforts in the iconic Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

The Isibindi Foundation alongside Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge is launching a campaign to assist in the preservation of rhino within the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park by supporting the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife HIP K9 Unit.

K9 Units require substantial funding as the training of dogs and handlers is expensive.

The cost of a trained dog & its handler is R129 000 and we aim to raise funds for another 3 dogs & handlers as well as ensure the long term sustainability of the project.
