Last week, I took a group of high schoolers from Delaware on The Lion Trail with . This was a few days before the storm hit and the day was an absolute cracker! The two standout highlights were the group of 14 dogs we met in the Glen and the 30 whales we saw from the promenade. The impromptu group singalongs were also a highlight.

Its been about 10 months of me regularly walking this trail now and one of the most satisfying experiences has been to slowly notice the seasonal changes. Last week, white abs yellow daisies popped up from nowhere. A few days before there had been just a few and then BAM! They're up and out and beautiful.

Recently had the privilege of taking this lovely family from the States on a trail. It was crisp but it was beautiful.

Views and views and views. The Lion Trail focuses on three key aspects for our day tours. Great stories, delicious food and epic views. It’s the views that often steal the show, with a hush descending on the otherwise chatty group. This unusual view of the Clifton beaches and Lion’s Head is one of the gasp inducers. Join us for a tour, with your friends or colleagues, if you want to experience a new side of Cape Town!

The Lion Trail starts and ends at The Green Point Lighthouse. It too three years to build the lighthouse, which was opened in 1824. It was the first solid lighthouse structure on the South African coast and is the oldest operational lighthouse in South Africa. When the lighthouse was first lit, it burned Argand lamps fueled by s***m whale oil. The light from these lanterns could be seen for 6 nautical miles or 11 km.

The great thing about walking along the Lion’s Head loop for a section of The Lion Trail, is how each new section of the loop slowly reveals new views of the surrounding landscape. Here we start getting glimpses of 12 Apostles, a taste of the spectacular views to come.

The second picnic stop on The Lion Trail features roasted peppers, grilled aubergines, spiced artichokes, fresh salad sticks with hummus and tzatziki, berries and rooibos-infused mimosas with sparkling wine from Constantia. Sitting under the dappled light of the forest canopy and savouring the picnic is one of the great moments on The Lion Trail, an adventure made for friends.
