I absolutely positively cannot stress this enough: the people around you have a direct impact on what happens in you. They canât control you. They arenât in charge of your happiness and you arenât in charge of theirs. In the end, weâre all responsible for ourselves, so thatâs not what Iâm saying.
What Iâm saying isâtheir attitude is going to rub off on you. Whether theyâre positive or negative. Whether theyâre reactive or whether they respond with wisdom. Whether they are actively growing and learning and trying to do better. Whether theyâre trying to get healthy and stay healthy. The words that come out of their mouth will more than likely eventually come out of your mouth too in some way, shape, or form. The way they handle themselves, the way they treat others, they way they view their close relationshipsâit all matters.
Whether they compete, condemn, criticize or lift up. The way they spend their money. They way they spend their time. The books they read and the things they love.
Their confidence is likely going to give you confidence about yourself and their insecurity is likely going to give you insecurity about yourself. Their focus is going to change what youâre looking at, even if itâs just the teeniest tiniest bit. Their moral compass may not become your moral compass completely, but itâs very likely going move the needle north or south.
So when youâre choosing who to surround yourself,
itâs essential that you choose people who are like-hearted. This will always always always be some of the best advice I have to offer the world in regards to friendship.
