A beautiful sunrise from Whale Rock Cottage this morning. Two massive Southern Right whales hugged their way past Whale Rock as they slowly made their way south last night. Spring is upon us, and guests are loving their time here!

Whale Rock Apartment is our ground floor unit - opened to bookings in April 2022, and has seen guests from around the world. The reviews have been humbling as well as encouraging!

Over the last year, we have hosted an unprecedented number of guests at Whale Rock Cottage from more than 20 countries around the world (besides loyal South African guests). Average occupancy has been around 80% over the last six months. We are humbled to have achieved Superhost status with Airbnb as well receiving excellent reviews from Booking.com guests.

It is only with such significant international exposure that one can fully appreciate the beauty of our environment, our warm-hearted South Africans, and world-class dining opportunities! I’m grateful! 🙏🏼

We have recently started renovations on our second apartment - at the top of the property, and look forward to having it available for guests towards the end of the year! I took the pic below this morning - from the top deck of the top apartment which is under renovation! What a view!!!!

I had my own encounter with this beautiful creature, which I will share shortly. However, we need to ensure boundaries are maintained, to protect this Cape Clawless Otter. No feeding or petting please, and keep your distance from her.

Whale Rock Cottage is nestled along the slopes of Murdoch Valley in Simons Town. It is set directly behind the imposing Whale Rock, also called Spaniard Rock, where the legendary dive-spot of A-Frame is found. It is here that the Academy award-winning My Octopus Teacher was filmed.

From Whale Rock Cottage, it’s a 5 minute walk to Fisherman’s Beach. I enjoy walking across the rocky outcrops, over Frank’s Beach, and skirting across the bottom of the golf course as far as Windmill Beach.
You stand a good chance of seeing a Humpback Whale, penguins, dolphins, Cape Fur seals, and on the rare occasion might be lucky enough to spot an illusive Cape Clawless Otter. In the evenings, the nocturnal Porcupines cross the coastal paths, seeking juicy roots for dinner!
