ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND ST FRANCIS BAY
There is so much to do and see in the quaint seaside village of St Francis Bay.
Of course, St Francis is renowned for its idyllic surfing conditions – specifically the world-famous Bruce’s Beauty surfing wave.
For those who enjoy exploring on foot, there are several wonderful, safe hikes nearby the port. Walking trails meander through seaside greenery and beaches, with rock pools and crashing waves at your side.
You could also enjoy the day climbing 156 steps to the 2.75 million-candle-power lamp room in the famous Cape St Francis Bay Lighthouse. It boasts the highest masonry tower on the South African coast.
For cycling enthusiasts, there is a 27 km mountain bike trail through the nature reserve in Cape St Francis, as well as several safe road-riding routes. Otherwise, you can just enjoy rolling through the village and exploring the canals on two wheels.
Those who prefer ball sports also have options. There are tennis courts, squash courts and two 18-hole golf courses. The Jack Nicklaus signature course, known as The Links, and the local village golf course both boast lovely sea views.
The village offers deep-sea fishing charters and sunset boat cruises around the canals.
There are also a variety of superb restaurants serving fresh seafood and sushi overlooking the bay, the canals or the port. Otherwise, you could opt for tasty chargrilled ribs and chilled artisanal beers in the heart of the village.
