Our Beaches & Boulders Half-Day Itinerary is filled with quintessential South African experiences.

The day begins with a morning coffee at Surfers Corner in Muizenberg before a guided walk along the scenic seaside pathway to Kalk Bay. This promenade offers breathtaking views of False Bay and the colourful 19th-century Victorian bathing boxes in St. James, once used by the affluent to change into their bathing suits. For the adventurous, we dare a dip in the chilly waters of the Dalebrook tidal pool - a popular activity for the locals.

In Kalk Bay, guests can enjoy brunch at a charming local eatery, followed by a leisurely walk around the harbour to meet the local fishermen and observe the resident Cape Fur Seals. They will also have time to explore the many antique shops, locally designed clothing boutiques, and art galleries in this wonderful boho seaside town.

To wrap up the day, guests will enjoy a guided walk, away from the usual boardwalks, at the Boulders Penguin Colony. Finally, they will make their way back to Cape Town along the stunning Chapman's Peak Drive, making a stop to soak in a spectacular South African sunset.

Discover the Cape Peninsula like never before with our Beaches & Boulders half-day itinerary.

Guests begin their adventure with a morning coffee at Surfers Corner in Muizenberg, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere before embarking on a leisurely stroll along the seaside promenade. Here, breathtaking views of False Bay unfold, complemented by the iconic beach huts at St. James tidal pool (which they can take a dip in, if they dare!).

After a brunch at a charming local eatery in Kalk Bay, guests have the opportunity to wander through this bohemian seaside town. With its eclectic antique shops, quirky curio street vendors, and unique South African clothing stores and art galleries, Kalk Bay is a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

Another highlight of the day awaits at the extraordinary Boulders Penguin Colony—the only place in the world where one can get up close to African penguins. An off-the-beaten-track guided walk offers an intimate encounter with these endangered birds before the return journey along the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive.

A massive shout out to our very own Henning Burden for completing the Ultra Trail 100 Cape Town this weekend!

For his first ultramarathon, Henning went big with the UT100, a 100km race, featuring an incredible 4972 meters of elevation gain. This circular route on and around Table Mountain, took in stunning trails that extend from the lower slopes of the mountain to Llandudno, Hout Bay and back via Silvermine, Constantia and the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.

Not only did Henning finish strong, but he also secured an impressive 90th place out of 312 entries, with 85 withdrawals, completing the 100 miles in an outstanding 18:53:54.

We’re all so proud of you, Henning!

FD RISE & CLIMB: TABLE TOP EXPLORER (UP & DOWN IN THE CABLE CAR)
(Duration: 5 to 8 hours - varied mileage based on your guests' fitness levels)

This circular walk begins at the Upper Cableway Station (assuming the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is operational) and is considered the ideal route for guests who enjoy hiking without the challenges of strenuous climbing.

Hikers will be rewarded with the chance to see Maclear's Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain, standing at an impressive 1,086 meters (3,563 feet) above sea level. Built in 1865 by Sir Thomas Maclear, who served as the Queen's astronomer in the Cape, Maclear's Beacon was originally constructed as a triangulation point for surveying the region. Surrounded by the remarkable flora and fauna of the Cape Floristic Region—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—Maclear's Beacon is an iconic landmark that offers panoramic views of Cape Town and the surrounding landscape.

The trail features breathtaking views and also includes a loop that leads to the seldom-visited Hely-Hutchinson Reservoirs and Reservoir Museum before returning to the Upper Cableway Station.

"Where do I begin…. The Gardens & Grapes Tour is truly an experience, from being briefed through in the beginning, regarding safety to allowing flexibility throughout the Tour, even in harsh weathers is truly something. You get the best of both worlds, trailing along the Kirstenbosch Gardens with breath taking views while being educated on Fynbos by our incredible guide Henning, who I’ve noticed took careful consideration in assessing his guests every step of the way ensuring a successful Tour. I thought the weather would have ruined this tour but honestly the weather was beautiful and set the atmosphere, with multiple rainbows forming along the way, I felt as if I was in a fairytale, lol you can say the weather understood the assignment… As for the Sprinkle of Magic! The best pick me up needed along the way, a real treat and left us all feeling spoiled 😊 Finishing off our Tour at the Beau Constantia was the ULTIMATE and lavish way to end this Tour, my personal fav with stunning 180 deg views paired with amazing wine and soothing music. All in all, it was beautiful, I may not be the fittest person in the room, and in my room currently being me and my Chihuahua 😃 , I would definitely try to amp up my stamina for the next one !

Thank you so much for this amazing experience, I will definitely be providing feedback to our divisions based on my experience with SLOW Walks & Hikes."

An article from sapeople.com has recently rated a day trip to Cape Point and the Cape Peninsula as the NUMBER ONE best day trip from Cape Town.

We can't really argue with that, can we? (But we can say that it's best experienced with SLOW Walks & Hikes 😉).

Our hop-on-hop-off walking tour guides guests on lesser-known walking tracks and trails in the beautiful Cape Peninsula. It includes a unique beach and bush hike in Olifantsbos within the Cape Point Nature Reserve, where guests will be captivated by the fabulous fynbos, beautiful rock pools, a fascinating shipwreck and WW2 history, a visit to the iconic Cape Point lighthouse with a delightful trailside tea along the way, an off-the-beaten-track experience at the Boulders Penguin Colony and a sundowner on the iconic Chapmans Peak Drive.

On behalf of Live 4 Africa, we want to say a huge THANK YOU for such an incredible day! We are so happy to have experienced a taste of what our clients have been experiencing and can now understand why they always rave about their day tours with you! We all enjoyed the day thoroughly.
From the cold plunge at St James and hot lemongrass 'shower' that followed, to the incredible picnic set-up after a short and sweet hike. Not forgetting the super interesting and informative presentation by Christo - such an eye-opening and authentic talk (and a good brush up on history knowledge which we clearly needed!) Just a thoroughly well planned and thought-out day, that we are sure will be memorable for any of our Live 4 Africa guests!
We can see that you all just love what you do, and it shines through in the exceptional experiences you provide. We can see that our guests are in good hands (not that we ever doubted it!)"

Rain, shine, mist, or even snow — our guides are always ready to go!

One frequently asked question we get (especially this winter!) is, "Do you still walk in bad weather?"
The answer is a resounding yes!
As long as it is safe, we continue our walks in wet or windy conditions. We even provide a limited selection of wet and cold weather gear and day packs for guests who may not have their own.

What's more, our guides always have a backup plan tucked away in their back pocket. They can adapt the itinerary to offer walks or activities that avoid the worst of the weather or even swap it out for a cultural day in the city — ensuring your guests have a memorable experience, regardless of the weather conditions.

This week’s Heritage Month focus highlights the Constantia Winelands which forms part of our 'Gardens to Grapes' Itinerary.

As the oldest wine region in South Africa, Constantia’s history dates back to the 17th century, when Dutch colonial governor Simon van der Stel established the Constantia estate in 1685. His vision was to create a vineyard that produced exceptional wines, a goal he achieved with remarkable success. The region quickly gained fame for its sweet dessert wines, particularly the renowned Vin de Constance, which became a favourite among European aristocracy.

Over the years, Constantia has transformed from a colonial outpost into a vibrant viticultural hub, blending old-world charm with a unique terroir characterised by fertile soil and a favourable climate. This rich heritage continues to produce world-class wines that reflect the region’s legacy.

As South Africa celebrates Heritage Month, we shine a spotlight on our favourite boho seaside town, Kalk Bay (best experienced on our Half Day Beaches & Boulders Itinerary - nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

This picturesque fishing village on the False Bay coast exemplifies the intersection of history, culture, and community, reflecting the diverse legacies that shape the nation. From its rich indigenous roots to its maritime heritage, Kalk Bay stands as a testament to the enduring tapestry of South African history.

Originally inhabited by the Khoisan people, who thrived on both land and sea, Kalk Bay emerged as a vibrant fishing hub in the 19th century. The harbour, built in the 1800s, fostered fishing and trade, becoming integral to the village's identity and economic growth.

The architecture here features a delightful blend of Cape Dutch, Victorian, and Edwardian styles, with original fishing cottages and the iconic Kalk Bay Theatre serving as cultural landmarks. The area has also attracted artists and writers throughout its history, enhancing its creative spirit.

This winter has gifted us with some spectacular waterfalls.

On recent wet and windy days this season, our guides' flexibility enabled them to adapt itineraries to avoid the worst of the weather on exposed mountain trails and cater to guests' various fitness levels with sheltered forest walks instead.

Picture this: a surprise trailside tea featuring a selection of delicious hot chocolate, artisanal coffee, or rooibos tea, along with an array of tasty local snacks—all set against the stunning backdrop of a cascading waterfall.
Is there a better way to spend a winter’s day in Cape Town? We think not!

Celebrating Heritage Month: The History and Heritage of Cape Point

Cape Point has been a significant landmark since the early days of maritime exploration. The area was first documented by European explorers in the late 15th century when Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias sailed around the Cape in 1488. He named it the "Cape of Storms," highlighting the treacherous waters that surround it. Later, it was renamed the "Cape of Good Hope" to reflect the optimism of finding a sea route to India. In the 17th century, the Dutch established a refreshment station at the Cape, leading to increased navigation and trade. The lighthouse at Cape Point was built in 1859, becoming a crucial aid for ships navigating the perilous waters around the Cape.

The reserve is renowned for its stunning landscapes, featuring dramatic cliffs, rich biodiversity, and unique fynbos vegetation, which is part of the Cape Floristic Region—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is home to numerous endemic plant species and a variety of wildlife, including baboons, antelope, and over 250 bird species, making it a vital conservation area. In 1998, Cape Point was incorporated into the larger Table Mountain National Park to enhance conservation efforts and promote sustainable tourism. The park aims to protect the unique ecosystems and heritage sites while providing educational opportunities for visitors.

Cape Point Nature Reserve offers guests a chance to explore its scenic vistas, learn about its rich heritage, and appreciate the ongoing efforts to preserve this remarkable part of South Africa.
