How to charge camera batteries and lithium-ion batteries.

It can be frustrating when your phone dies halfway through the day, but it turns out a short battery life may actually be our fault. Most of us think we should just charge our phone when it is close to dead, but the opposite is actually true. Turns out, charging your battery in short

Possibility of snow on Wednesday.

Possibility of snow on Wednesday.

We're excited about the unexpected snow today but it seems we have more on the way for Wednesday! Here is our forecast:

Early Wednesday morning will see the arrival of a cold front sweeping in over the Western Cape. This will most likely bring snow over the high lying peaks of the region with heavier falls expected over the Cederberg. The cold front will continue to sweep inland and by Wednesday mid-morning to afternoon we could see snow over the Outeniquas and the mountainous regions of the Eastern Cape surrounding Graaf Reinet, as well a little over the Tsitsikamma mountains. Late Wednesday afternoon and evening it’s possible we could experience snow over the mountainous regions of Hogsback, Molteno, Dordrecht, Barkly East and Rhodes with the front extending further over the Eastern Cape and into Lesotho all the way to Maseru. All falls in this area are expected to be light and to finish by early Thursday morning.

Ceres Snow 2 July 2016

After Friday's rain and snow, Saturday dawned clear. I took photographer Ceri McKelvie to Matroosberg Reserve / Klondyke Farm, outside Ceres, to photograph the snow. Snow was light on the mountain peaks, but the dawn light was fantastic. There were frost ice crystals on the plants and objects. Even the sun wasn't melting the frost.

Photography Students

Two photography students were walking across campus when one said, “Where did you get such a great camera?”

The second photographer replied, “Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman walked up. She placed the camera on the ground, took off all her clothes and said, “Take what you want.”

The first photographer nodded approvingly, “Good choice, the clothes probably wouldn’t have fitted.”

It makes sense to think that picture-taking "removes" you from a situation, changing you from being a participant to being an observer. According to a new multi-university study, however, getting snapshots can actually make you enjoy experiences more.

When you take out the camera to photograph, you almost always have certain expectations from the photo. You want the photo to capture how you saw or imagined something. More often than not, the photo doesn’t meet your expectations. It’s either blurry or too bright; the colors look unusual or the…
