We often get asked “WHEN to go on Safari?
In spring and summer, brief afternoon rain showers kick start birthing time, with baby animals and the cute factor in abundance. Migratory birds return from the North and the summer landscape is lush and colourful.
The dry winter season mean lots of sunshine, with cool mornings quickly warming into the equivalent of a European summer day. One can see deeper into the bush as grass is low and animals congregate around water holes.
So there really is no bad time for safari, each season has its own unforgettable highlights and never disappoints.

So 2023 has been a real roller coaster for our Team, and this week we're winding down to our annual Christmas shut down on Friday. We will be relaxing, recovering and re-energising, so that we'll be raring to go in 2024, which promises to be another super busy year! Wishing all of our friends, partners and colleagues a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! See you next year!

What a pleasure it was to have the gang together to enjoy a few days combining on-site product updates with some R&R after a crazy year! The Walthers Authentic Travel Africa Team was thoroughly spoiled by our good friends at Sun City and Shepherds Tree Game Lodge, and the Pilanesberg National Park continued to impress with 4 of the Big 5 seen during our first evening safari. Some delicious food and just a few cocktails were enjoyed, ensuring a great start to the holiday season.

Given what our Tourism industry has endured over the past two and a half years, we reckon we have a lot to be grateful for right now. Just a year ago, every piece of business had cancelled for the 2nd time, and the future looked very bleak. One year later, we are grateful for all of our clients who believed in us and believed that the show must go on, and landed in our beloved country in their numbers, ensuring that we've had a wonderful year. While our American friends and partners celebrate their Thanksgiving, it reminds us that we too have much to be thankful for.

As part of our 40th anniversary year, the Authentic Travel Africa Team elected to visit the Johannesburg SPCA in Booysens, where we helped out with some maintenance and chores, and were then allowed to spend time walking dogs and playing with the puppies. Our small contribution was instead of a 40th birthday party, which we all felt would be inappropriate this year, given what our industry has endured. And we managed to leave with only one puppy adopted, which wasn't easy!
