For all the twitchers, here are 5 interesting facts about the beautiful Lilac Breasted Roller
🐦 Both females and males are equally as stunning as each other and it is hard to tell the difference between the two.
🐦 It is Kenya's national bird
🐦They are called 'Kambu' in Swahili
🐦They are fearless hunters
🐦Spiders, scorpions, centipedes, millipedes and snails make up the staples of a lilac-breasted roller’s diet
It's not always just about seeing the big animals on safari, the smaller ones are equally as interesting and beautiful to see too.

Thinking back to our wonderfully wet and muddy safari at Lalibela two weeks ago.....
We had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Mills Manor on Lalibela Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.
Mills Manor is an exclusive use old manor house on the reserve, which caters for families or groups of up to 10 people. The old farmhouse still carries such character and has a real sense of homeliness about it. It has five grand bedrooms, all ensuite with the most beautifully decorated bathrooms with freestanding baths, and huge walk in showers. Each bedroom looks out onto the large lawn area and reserve, where you will very likely see the Elephants walk past or hear their grumbles at night.
During our stay at Mills Manor, we were waited on hand and foot by the amazing staff, who went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. The food was outstanding, even my children commented on how wonderful each meal was, not to mention the surprise chocolate cake they made for my son and husbands’ birthday.
Included in your stay are all your beverages hot and cold, your three main meals of the day, as well as high tea before your afternoon game drive. We did not stop eating the entire weekend because the food was so good, and my children have never drunk as many hot chocolates in their lives.
The weather did not play ball for most of our weekend, but it did not stop us having the most memorable weekend as a family. From wet game drives, getting stuck in the mud, sitting around the fire and playing board games it really made for quality family time.
One thing this weekend proved was no matter the weather there is no better place than the African bush.
For more information on The Mills Manor or any of the other lodges at Lalibela Game Reserve contact me today and let me curate your perfect holiday to South Africa.

Did you know that the 'Conservation Levy' you pay when visiting many game reserves in South Africa does not only contribute towards the upkeep of the reserves but it also contributes to the Rhino anti-poaching units and local communities within the area through initiatives such as growing vegetable gardens, soup kitchens, uplifting local schools and even sterilizing dogs.
Therefore you are directly giving back when booking a safari in South Africa 🇿🇦
