"My name is Yvette Oosthuizen. I am a member of East Rand Region, SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) and in my day job I am an HR Business Partner in a Private Health Group. I'm married to Naas Oosthuizen, also a SANParks Honorary Ranger. We relocated in 2017 from Limpopo (Phalaborwa) to Gauteng and are currently staying in Heidelberg. In 2016 I completed NQF level Nature Guide Course with the aim of becoming a guide but unfortunately my career change demands in 2017 put a hold on the process. Over and above of being an Artist, I love gardening, and we are growing our own vegetables.
I joined the SANPARKS Honorary Rangers, Bushvel Region in 2012 in as an Applicant and became a full member in 2013. In 2017, I transferred to East Rand Region.
During 2012 the Bushveld Region Secretary resigned and I availed myself as stand in until RMC elections in 2013, when I was nominated and elected officially as Secretary for the Region. I served in that position until April 2017, when we had to relocate to Gauteng. During the same period at Bushveld Region I also served as a Secretary for the Nxanatseni Forum. Once in Gauteng I was again requested in 2018 to assist as Secretary in East Rand Region when their Secretary resigned. In 2019 I was officially elected and served East Rand Region in that position until 2021. Currently I am serving o the Region's ERESCo Sub Committee since 2022.
Since childhood animals and nature have been my passion. I always nurse the sick animals at home - chickens, kittens, puppies, mice or small birds.
Currently my SHR duties comprise of assisting with the SANParks Equestrian Unit, the Public Education and Awareness Programme, Project Embrace’s Woman's Day event in support of the SANParks Rangers’ Spouses, working at Bush Camps, working on Golden Gate National Park’s gardens and our region’s ERESCo Sub Committee.
Nature is the world's life chain. Without the preservation of our biomes we will be in serious danger as human beings. Serving to support South African National Parks in this preservation is a honour. "
