Chapter 3/3

5 night Pafuri Wilderness backpack trail.

Fever tree forest - Once we set foot on the limpopo floodplain we were met with a wave of greenery - the fever tree forest on the edge of the limpopo river separating South Africa with Zimbabwe. Our last mornings walk was spent through approximately 3km of the many patches of fever tree forests along the limpopo river. It could be described as the garden of eden with melodious bird calls all around accompanied by various forms of game in the undergrowth. It was truly one of the most amazing trails done with truly incredible people.

5 night Pafuri Wilderness backpack trail.

The Floodplains - Meandering under the magestic Ana trees and Nyalatrees of the Luvuvhu floodplain we find ourselves immersed in the presence of two herds of elephant. The day was completed by crossing the mopani scattered basaltic ridges until we were met with the very welcomed view of the Limpopo floodplain.

5 night Pafuri Wilderness Backpack Trail.

Lanner Gorge - As we follow a tributary down to the Luvuvhu river that shapes the sandstone hills of Lanner gorge, we are met with ancient wild views that never get old. Verreaux’s eagles to Rock Hyrax’s and Klipspringers. From African Crowned Eagles and Pels Fishing owl to Waterbuck and Baboons - all were out to greet us on our arrival to Pafuri.

Since childhood, my passion has always been the preservation of wildlife and experiencing Africa at its best. Being in the conservation and eco-tourism industry for over 10 years now as a field guide, trail’s ranger, anti – poaching officer and section ranger , I have been blessed to gain vast knowledge and experience of the African bush. In addition, I have gained great respect for the people who walked this road with me. It is this passion for Africa that Expeditions Direct was born so that I can also share the most remarkable destinations the African continent has to offer to travelers.
