The Skeleton Gorge hike takes you through shaded , indigenous forest up the Eastern slopes of Table Mountain. The highest point on Table Mountain is 1086m above sea level.

Distance: +/-6.5km
Difficulty: Challenging
Terrain: Single rocky track, stone steps, steep sections, ladders, minor scrambles

Best time to hike:
This route is shaded most of the way up Skeleton Gorge. Altough you can get away with starting later on this route it is recommended starting this hike early in the morning

Celebrating the 5 species of rhinoceros:
Sumatran, Black, White, Javan & Greater one horned Rhino.
Two of these 5 you find in southern Africa.
🌻Rhinos are ancient, having been around for over 50 million years.
🌻Rhinos have very poor eyesight.
🌻Rhino horn is made up of keratin - same protein which forms the basis of our hair & nails.
🌻African Rhinos and Oxpeckers (type of bird) have a fasinating symbiotic relationship. The oxpecker stands on the rhino's back and eats ticks and other insects that it finds on the rhino. If the oxpecker senses danger, it will always create a commotion, which helps to alert the rhino to it aswell.
