Spotlight on one of women’s surfing's forgotten heroes 💡🏄‍♀️

Pauline was never given a cheque for her World Title, which she won in 1993. That year, Pauline’s total earnings from the tour was $30,000 – $25,000 of which she spent on travel to make it to events.

Due to her arthritis she has been driving a bus in the north of Byron Bay. She was never able to attract sponsors because back then hardly anyone was interested in sponsoring women and the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) did not award World Title bonus cheques every year that the Tour was run.

Sadly, Pauline has also been struggling with rheumatoid arthritis including a rare autoimmune disease in the past two years. While battling medical bills, two fans started a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 for this surf icon.

The GoFundMe campaign has already surpassed the target by Saturday and has gone on to pass $40,000. 🙌The rest of the money will go towards charities of her choice. If you’d like to donate: https://bit.ly/37Yx59o

This story shows how women in sport faced tough odds and had to fight for a space in a male dominated industry. We’re grateful for the two fans for starting this initiative and shedding light on an unsung hero.❤️

How many surfers under the age of 18 are you going to catch taming Teahupoo like Eimeo Czermak?

The natural skill and unwavering fearlessness of Eimeo has him taking on 8ft giants with ease. Waves that would make the most seasoned surfers raise an eyebrow, makes Czermak even more keen.🏄‍♂️

Eimeo is a 17-year-old phenom who lives a stone's throw away from Teahupoo and boasts with "incredible barrel riding skills for being so young" according to photographer Ryan Chachi. "I can’t wait to see him when it’s 10-feet! His comfort level is simply surreal."

This definitely makes him one to watch! 🌊

The gigantic swells at Maui this past month have become known as Super Swell Saturday. These monster waves are enough to scare off the most seasoned surfers and anyone with a survival instinct but there are a few people keen to tame the beastly swells. 🏄‍♂️

English surfer Amin, is one of them. He is aiming to be the best big wave surfer in the world and right now Maui is the perfect place to achieve these goals with super swells reaching a whopping 24m! 🌊

He is able to surf these swells by being towed into them from behind a jetski and for safety he wears an inflatable vest for when he wipes out.

While the rest of us watch the waves with admiration, intimation and awe, Adam is intent on making his mark. We can all but wonder, what must go through his mind while he surfs these wild waves.

Monster waves at Jaws, Maui! 🚨

The notorious Hawaiin surf break dished up some insane waves but that’s not stopping surfers such as Justine Dupont, Nathan Florence and Brady Law from trying to tame the beast.

The World Surf League estimated the waves could have even reached the carnage of 60-feet!

The surf is absolutely cooking in Hawaii right now! The footage coming out of that place is amazing. Take a look at this montage of Italo ripping it up on the North Shore. He might not be a true local, but he's already becoming a Hawaii legend. Ferreira won the world title in the 2019 World Surf League culminating with a win at the 2019 Billabong Pipe Masters.

Day one of the Men’s Billabong Pipe Masters saw Ferreira, Florence and Slater make a phenomenal start to the 50th event. 🏄‍♂️

The conditions may have been slow but World Champ, Ferreira ended his session with a huge backside rotation at Backdoor.

Florence has been spending so much time on the North Shore, the conditions did not phase him.

Meanwhile, legend Slater stepped out on a fish and rode the waves with ease. His experience allowed him to breeze through this heat.

It may only have been the first day but do you have any favourites? 🌊

December is always an exciting time of year for surfing as the season kicks off in Hawaii. 🏄‍♂️

This year the World Surf League announced that they have decided to cancel their 2020 season, including the Championship Tour. 🏝💥

However, the Pipe Masters is on like Donkey Kong!

Men's Billabong Pipe Masters 2020 is on from 08 - 20 December 2020. ✨

This event will stream live on The World Surf League website. We can’t wait to watch the top surfers in the world battle it out on one of the gnarliest waves around, the Banzai Pipeline.

In a major departure, the Billabong Pipe Masters, which has traditionally been the last event on the WSL’s tour calendar, will kick off the Men’s CT in December of 2020.

We’ll send you another reminder closer to the time, but make sure you’re tuned in from the 8th so that you don’t miss any of the action.

Multiple world champ and 80s standout Tom Carroll, jamming it in the pocket at Pipeline. 🏄✨

The 1980s was a progressive decade for surfing. Thrusters came onto the scene to improve performance which is still the ultimate setup today. The pro tour continued to grow, and new stars like Tommy Carroll, Mark Occilupo and one of the greatest surfers of all time, Tom Curren, arrived on the scene.

The surf industry grew, and despite taking a rather unhealthy interest in neon colours, surfing progressed rapidly. Surfers like Christian Fletcher, an off the wall character from California, started busting airs. No-one on the contest scene really got it though and his brand of surfing was frowned on by the establishment.

Surf movies were getting more and more important in surfing culture especially following the arrival of the VHS tape. It meant that you didn’t have to wait for a movie to come to the local cinema, you could stick it on at home and get amped to go surf.
