I'm in the process of creating an online Marketplace for all local products / locally produced goods and services in Durbanville (and surrounds).

So many micro enterprises have been created during the lockdown and I would love to see them all continue to grow once these restrictions are behind us and we are allowed to function normally again.
The world has changed forever and now is the time for us all to support the vast array of local businesses / business owners right here, in our village.
I want to focus on WINE & FOOD as well as any, and all, related products but I'm not going to restrict anyone from listing their goods.
My aim is to get D'Villians shopping for the things they need from the people that need us...
I hope to create a home delivery network in Durbanville for everything Food & Wine.

So please share this post with everyone you know that bakes, makes, cooks, farms, packs, processes, grows or produces... and lives in / around Durbanville.

Think...

Sauvignon Blanc to Sweet potatoes; Milk, Merlot, Butter or Biltong; Pies and Puddings... Cakes, casseroles, nuts or cheese... Berries, Cherries, herbs or honey... let's support local and all make some decent money!

The admin and payment processors are in place already... I just need your amazing products so don't waste any time... get in touch now by including your email in the comments or tell me what you do in an email... [email protected] & I'll be in touch to discuss the plan.

The City of Cape Town is encouraging residents to keep a special eye out for the Cape Dwarf Chameleon, which is classified as a vulnerable species. This will assist the City in tracing where these chameleons occur. To participate, residents need to download the iNaturalist app.

With the onset of autumn, the Cape Dwarf Chameleon, also known as Trapsuutjies in Afrikaans, should be delivering offspring ahead of the rains, which usually occur around this time of year. Residents should therefore look out for baby chameleons, which tend to be brown in colour and at birth, can fit on the tip of one’s forefinger, but soon grow much bigger. Cape Dwarf Chameleons give live birth to between five to 15 babies at a time. Newborns then drop and stick to vegetation, after which they are immediately self-sufficient.

Sanity has eventually prevailed!

The wine industry may continue with harvest!

Thank to all involved in making this happen.

UPDATE: The legislation has been amended and producers can now finish “harvesting and storage activities essential to the prevent the wastage of primary agricultural goods” 🍷🍇

Today the South African wine industry was dealt a terrible blow. With wine deemed a non-essential item during , hundreds of wineries are left stranded in the middle of harvest, with thousands of tons of grapes still on the vine. As a non-essential item, producers are not permitted to finish picking or perform any cellar work (as in, winemaking) during lockdown. That being said, the potential for human disaster from Covid-19 outweighs the economic impact.

While Springfield has fortunately finished harvesting and with most of our fermentation finished, we are distraught thinking of our fellow producers whose very livelihood will be left to rot on on the vine.

Further to that, wine (and all alcohol) is not permitted to be sold or transported during lockdown, which means that at this point we are unable to export to countries that are still able to sell alcohol - which was a small comfort for us during this time.

While is lobbying for an industry that contributes around R36,1 billion to the GDP annually, we are calling on you, our fellow wine lovers, to do your part for an industry that might not be around when we all get out of this.

Please, support your favourite wineries. Order wine online even though you will only receive it after lockdown. Every time you find yourself wishing you had a glass of wine right now, add a bottle to your cart. Make sure that the wineries you love, are still able to make the wine you love after all of this is over.

More than anything, please do your part to make this lockdown go as smoothly and as quickly as possible. Stay at home. Stay safe.
