An Aardvark is an incredibly fast digger. It is so fast, it digs holes to hide in as a way of escaping a predator.
An Aardvark can dig a 5 foot hole in a matter of 60 seconds! It helps when you are armed with one of the longest, and strongest clawed feet -- just look at those nails!
* Aardvarks are shy animals and prefer to avoid humans. They are not a threat to humans.

If you guys have been following me for a while, you’ll know I’ve previously RAVED about the wonder that is Antbear Eco Lodge. We visited Antbear in May of 2019, for one night – but WHAT A NIGHT! This spot is so special, truly unique and the best spot to go to just ‘get away […]

Antbear is close to Mooi River, but it feels like the middle of nowhere. It is quiet with no sounds of vehicles, just sounds of birds, horses & donkeys.

Antbear Lodge, hit by the COVID 19 travel drama, is doing its level best to survive. Its more than just a business, its a family of 13 staff with zero income for the next few months before any recovery period can start. We somehow have to meet our overheads, staff and community needs and feed our an...

Fun Fact Friday!

Here's a little section from our recent slackpacking trip through the Drakensberg... I, Byron, absolutely adore waterfalls, big or small and so this was one of my favourite places we passed.

However, since this is a Fun Fact Friday (yes on Facebook, not Insta) we have decided there is something more pertinent to be done - a game!

This photograph was taken at the ZuluWaters Game Reserve. The two lovely owners of the place are quite new to the position, so shall we try to guess some of their history?

Mike and Bettina were ___(occupation)___ in ___(country)___, before moving to beautiful South Africa!

A. IT engineers in Germany
B. pig farmers in Denmark
C. lawyers in Norway

Guess in the comments below!

Come and experience the Drakensberg region

We live in the Drakensberg Region and are super passionate about promoting this region as a tourist destination. You don’t have to look hard to see why we love this region so much. Its a real wilderness experience with opportunities to do some real hard core hiking or you have a multitude of day hiking trails to choose from. There is even a luxury slackpacking trail where you walk from lodge to lodge and your luggage is transported for you.

The Drakensberg is much more than just hiking! its about relaxation, family holidays, a myriad of activities and attractions, quaint little coffee shops, cheese tasting, farm stalls, chocolate dipping, wine tasting, craft beers and now also craft gin tastings.

If its adventure that you are looking for then this is the top adventure destination in South Africa. Down hill scooters, canopy tours, hot air balloon flights, mountain bike trails, abseiling, white water rafting. horse back trails and big 5 safari in Nambiti Private Game Reserve.
