Wind caused havoc in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the video footage has a pinch of humor but on the day it was a serious problem for the cyclists taking part. The Cape Town Cycle Tour (formerly known as The Cape Argus Cycle Tour) is the world largest timed cycle race with over 35 000 contestants participating in the 109 km route around the spectacularly scenic Cape Peninsula. Sadly on 12 March, mother nature had different ideas, and for the first time in the event’s 40-year history, the race was cancelled due to the excessively strong winds – in excess of 100 km per hour in places. Thankfully the race was cancelled shortly after the first riders left the city centre.
