Lycophidion capense capense (A. Smith, 1831)
Lycophidion capense jacksoni (Boulenger, 1893)
Lycophidion capense loveridgei (Laurent, 1968)

The Common/Cape wolf snake is widespread throughout South Africa. It is very similar in appearance to the venomous stiletto snake, so it is best to leave these snakes alone when crossing paths.

The Albany adder (Bitis albanica) is one of the many dwarf adders that occur in South Africa. It was previously considered a subspecies of the Many Horned adder (Bitis cornuta). Bill Branch (1999) elevated Bitis cornuta albanica to its own species: Bitis albanica.

It finally happened, after 7 long days of searching for this species we found not 1, but 3 individuals 🐍🐍🐍. It was like winning the lotto 3 times in 12 hours🎊.

Here we have the Albany adder (Bitis albanica), a critically endangered species that’s habitat is slowly disappearing.

The area is home to Addo Elephant National Park and is the third-largest game reserve in the country. This could be the final stronghold for the Albany adder.

The National Park is home to more than 600 elephants and is the primary attraction for visitors. The game reserve is also home to black rhinos, Big Five and more than 400 Cape buffalos. And potentially a strong hold for the Albany adder.
