For the next 30 days I will be spending my time here in sud Afrika with Jimmy Webb and Arjan de k**k. Day one we visited a boulder in Arjan's backyard. I was able to put up a sick little power rig called "Welcome to Jamrock" (8B). This thing has burl moves on underclings and flat edges. Psyched for the projects to come. This area just keeps producing gems.
Seeing the largest marine migration(Sardine run) on planet earth is such a treat. I got to snorkel with a mommy whale and her calf this morning so close that I even had to swim out the way so that I did not roll off her back!

What an epic sight it would be to see the Dallol Volcano in Ethiopia. Dallol is a hydro-thermal site unlike the rest of the ones in the world, delivering a huge range of diversity and magical colour's due to the minerals found in the boiling water that is deposited on the surface.
Nature is bowss :)
This other-worldly landscape will leave you speechless — and maybe melt the soles of your shoes.

Bernie Theron (Supertramp 2014) is on his way to Iceland, where he is going on an adventure! This is what he has to say: After a year of planning, training and using this trip as an excuse to go to the Drakensberg way to much, I am off to the country of the Artic fox, Iceland… Time has caught up with me, now the real adventure starts. Cold, wet and windy days are waiting for my arrival. For the people wondering what I’m about to do: I am flying over the African continent to a small but significant place, a country with volcanos, glaciers, lava fields, hot spring and cold streams! This is where I’m going to do a solo traverse from north to south over a period of 30 days (+- 550km). No company. No GPS. No support team. No Satellite Phone. Just me, my camera, 30 days of food and fuel. My company will be my shadow. My GPS will be a map and compass. My support team will be my painkillers... This will take me through the remotest and most magical places in Iceland!
I would like to first and for most thank the most generous Donor who is covering a great deal of my costs (via the Supertramp Award- MCSA), also to the MCSA for making adventure more accessible in South Africa. And then thanks to all the support from my training partners to a very nervous and supportive Family!
Always keep on exploring!

Tuesdays can be just as mundane as Mondays as for most people working within the small yet fast growing adventure tourism industry as weekend approaches waiting for new pax to arrive. I was searching the web for some interesting news and found this article on Andrew Kellet who recently returned from Kenya training guides, “The aim here,” says the Capetonian, “is to have one standard of operational guiding for rivers internationally.” This means that if guides move to follow work around the world, they all speak the same ‘language’. This is a hot topic that is brought up a lot in my lectures, I want to ask what are your thoughts on belonging to an association in South Africa and do you prefer as a guide and/or a company the idea of having one standard of operational guiding?
Andrew Kellet is a kayaker first and an instructor second, but usually both at the same time...
