: About 25 km south of Bazaruto Lodge, on the sheltered west coast of Bazaruto Island, is and Spa, which started life in the early nineties as Sabal Bay, briefly changing its name to Turtle Bay, then well known Indigo Bay and finally Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort and Spa. The resort offers luxurious en suite, air-conditioned accommodation in up-market thatched chalets overlooking the beach, plus bay view rooms (which are not on the beach).



Drives across the island and over the high sand dunes guarding the ocean side of the island are possible, but it’s quite a trek and we don’t recommend Anantara Bazaruto a destination.
But the resort just 15 minutes by boat from Bazaruto’s Southern point and the productive gap known as between Bazaruto and Benguerra, is ideally situated for light tackle and fly anglers in particular. The coconut palms of Paradise Island/Santa Carolina are just visible on the horizon, and between the resort and this tiny island many sandbars break the surface at low tide. Deep channels between these sandbars are productive of , and , and other gamefish that hunt against the sandbars and sometimes chase shoals of baitfish right out of the water around your feet.
Serious deep sea anglers will take a boat out through the gap between and islands, to the continental drop-off about 12 km out, where encounters with , , , and other pelagic species can be expected.

The main, granitic islands of , , and sit on a continental shelf that is nowhere more than 70 metres deep, and usually far shallower. For the best fishing one needs to be off this shallow shelf, and this is virtually out of reach on day charters from the main island, Mahe.
Such deepwater areas can be reached on day charters from Praslin/La Digue, where there are several good sportfishing craft, and also from the outer islands of and , which have their own craft. Bird Island has also produced some good for bonefish from the shore. Plate Island, which rises from deep water about 100 km south of Mahe, is another good fishing area, though reachable only on overnight charters.

THE FISH: Being just south of the Equator, the Seychelles are home to all tropical marine gamefish, including blue, black and striped , swordfish, , and tuna, various /little tuna, and .
Species such as dogtooth tuna, green , eastern little tuna and bigeye tuna, are of world record quality. In addition, the shallow flats, particularly around the uninhabited southern atolls, teem with , (Chanos chanos), (similar to North American permit) and various types of /trevally.

Seasons: From October through April is the best time. The fish are present year round, but the Southeast Monsoon winds of May through September can make it difficult to land a boat on the bonefish atolls. @ Seychelles

The group of islands lie 4' south of the equator and are blessed with good weather year round. The islands fall outside of the cyclone belt so are not subjected to strong winds. During the north west monsoon months of November to April, short tropical rain showers occur followed by sun. The Seychelles include the only granitic islands in the Indian Ocean, and are without doubt the most beautiful, with forested, kilometre-high peaks looking down on dazzling beaches and translucent waters. With a population of only 95 853+ spread over 115 islands they are also the least populated of all the Indian Ocean islands, offering a fascinating mix of cultures and cuisines.

This destination is perfect for , , leisure and of course, especially when visiting the outer atolls, it is a world class fishery!

THE LONG WALK - Devil Milk with angler 2 hours 45 mins on the rod, dehydrated, arms limp and the fish is still swimming like it’s not hooked and full of . I’m in the water for over a hour carrying the worlds largest net, wading waist deep in 30 degree water. is offering the angler some mental counseling while trying not to laugh at my extended stroll.
