Good morning ! ☀️

As we promised in our previous post, we have something special lined up for you today.

The picture above are two very recent additions to our Tenikwa rehab family. These are two baby African Wild Cats. They've been brought in by the Nature Authorities from Mossel Bay.
We are very privilege to help such rare and endangered animals.

African Wild Cats are extremely threatened in the wild, the main reason for their decline is interbreeding with Domestic Cats. Their blood line has been watered down over the years and any specimens that we take in are kept separate from the other cats and we test their blood to see how pure it is. The result of the test determined the action we take in the rehabilitation process.

We will keep you updated on these two 😽

➡️If you want to sponsor an animal food during lockdown, here is the special link : https://tenikwa.co.za/save-wildlife-rehabilitation-wishlist/

➡️ Remember every donation, no matter how small will help ensure that our animals get what they need and when our gates open again, we can all enjoy the wonder of Tenikwa together ❤️

Robberg Nature Reserve is a hidden gem on the Plettenberg coastline. Featuring 3 walks with increasingly more difficult terrain it provides stunning views across the bay and if you are as lucky as us, sights of whales playing in the surf. Cape Fur Seals also inhabit a small Bay in the reserve. The Island provides views of birds and lizards and has a stunning beach to have a rest or picnic on. The first walk of 3km is easy walking for the not so fit but does feature some steep climbs. The 6km walk is much more strenuous and the 9km is for the more walking fit. All the walks have unparalleled views and sights. Was the highlight of our time in Plettenberg Bay and is really a must-do on your list of things to do. Go early, especially on weekends when it gets busy later in the morning.

Highest inflow: Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay
They found that the Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay in the Western Cape saw the highest inflow of visitors when comparing November with December. Their analysis eliminated people who may have come home for the holidays, and rather focused on those who had driven to the Garden Route area and then paid for holiday accommodation.

“The influx of visitors to the Garden Route [Mossel Bay and Plettenberg], shows how the popularity has grown in the last several years with the coastal towns working hard to draw visitors with unique attractions and amenities,” said Lightstone chief commercial officer Linda Reid.

According to Trip Advisor, top attractions in Plettenberg Bay include Robberg Nature Reserve, Plett Puzzle Park and Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, which rehabilitates a diverse variety of animals.

Robberg, situated 8km south of Plettenberg
Bay on the Garden Route,
is not only a nature reserve, but also a national monument and World Heritage Site.

These are the beach towns South Africans flock to for seaside holidays
The large towns of Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay in the Western Cape saw the highest inflow of visitors in absolute numbers.

If you’re planning a family getaway for the June holidays, then you may want to be up to date with where everyone else is going. Knowing this, you can then decide to join in the mass festivities or avoid a particular beach town for somewhere quieter.

If you enjoy home-made food away from home, in a laid-back and chilled atmosphere, then the Market on Main is the place for you. What better place to mingle with the locals, visitors and loved ones if not at the market anyway?

I recently popped in with a bunch of friends for some late lunch snacks and it was a treat. I had a chicken stir fry (freshly made on the spot); someone else in our group had a good old South African dish – pap and vleis, and the other had fresh fish and chips.

The rule here is that you bring your own alcoholic beverages to complement the delicious treat of your choice.

I must be honest, Market on Main is one of those places some of us locals just pass through as we go about in our day to day lives in this beautiful bay, only to realize later what an awful mistake that has been.

If you haven’t been, don’t stress, it’s not too late. There’s something here for everybody; just let your nose do the talking as you wander through the market searching for your perfect meal
