Heavy Hearts…..

At the writing of this, our hearts are once again heavy at the news of the passing of yet another lifelong client, friend, and ultimately family member of the Safaris of Graham Jones. As we sit here this evening, we cannot help shedding not only tears of sadness at the loss of our friend, but also a few tears of joy and laughter as we reminisce about the memories we have been so fortunate to share with you all over the years.

The realization is that this Safari business to us, is simply not just business. With each safari and every campfire shared, we are constantly expanding our family far beyond blood, growing our household through a bond that is forged with each step among the African bush. Our family is built with stories and laughter shared amongst the dancing flames of a proper campfire in the boma, and watching each evening as the Lord above paints a new sunset across the African sky, as if He is painting it each night just for us. Tonight, we are are eminently thankful for the expanse our family has grown to over the years, but at the same time our spirits are heavy with the realization that as time passes, we not only have been gifted the benefit to share in your joy through our passion of sharing our beloved Africa, but we are destined to also share in the grief and pain at the loss of a loved one. Alfred Lord Tennyson once said “Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”, and at the Safaris of Graham Jones, we have been fortunate to find a great deal of love over our 32 years. Although continents apart, we remain forever united through that love. When you celebrate, we celebrate with you, and when you mourn, we mourn with you as well. Love and blessings from all of us here at the Safaris of Graham Jones.

The rains have slowed, and we are getting a reprieve at last as the long hot summer days are finally beginning to cool off. The ever so vibrant and thick green bush, each day slowly withers to brown as the evidence of the imminent winter is quietly sneaking in. Even as I sit and write this now, it is hard not to feel the anticipation of what the impending safari season has to offer. Even the animals are becoming ripe with vigor as the Kudu’s necks are growing swollen and blue, and Impala rams, also drunk with love, each day are growing less weary of the cruiser as they bounce about like teenage boys roaring without a care in the world at their soon to be mates, who I might add, do not seem to be as enthused…..not yet anyway.

One thing that is never lost on the continent of Africa is the constant renewal that she is always providing. Even amongst all turmoil and strife, each year mothers provide rebirth and new life, providing protection and teaching the new generation how to navigate the tides of youth, many times even to the detriment of herself. This Mother’s Day, at the Safaris of Graham Jones, we want to wish a very heart felt thank you, not only to our mothers, but all the mothers in our safari family who have always given more than it takes to provide the love, care and passion to raise the next generation of those who will carry the torch well beyond us. All too often it is a job that seems to be thankless and in vain. This weekend, we want you to know that your hard work is not lost on us, and we are oh so thankful for sacrifices mothers make each day. We hope that this weekend you know you are appreciated and loved…..Happy Mother’s Day.

Busy morning Part 3:
After a very successful morning. We already had two phenomenal trophies in the bag and was making our way back to camp on the winding bush roads. As we came across an open area the ph spotted a very old nyala bull, full of character. As he looked up at his client, he got the nod and the game was on. After a short stalk the bull crossed the opening and into the line of sight of the hunters. The client made another great shot and downed the animal with in a few steps. As it goes in the bush, "use the opportunities that the bush provides because tomorrow it might not be there".

After weeks of planning, navigating Covid protocols and trying to guess at travel restrictions, we are excited to announce that our tickets are purchased and our travel to the US for the first time in a few years has been finalized and we couldn't be more excited!

Unfortunately, due to the new variant and without knowing whether travel would ultimately be permitted out of South Africa, we were forced to make a decision that ultimately resulted in "The Safaris of Graham Jones" deciding to postpone our visit to the Dallas Safari Club until next year, 2023.

Although our DSC friends will be greatly missed, we look forward to our time at the Safari Club convention in Las Vegas, January 19th - 22nd held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Please plan to come by and say hello to the team at booth #3278! If you are unable to attend the convention but would still like to say hello or discuss your next adventure, please don't hesitate to call us on our local number at (662)386-3467.
