The helmeted guineafowl is capable of flight but it is mainly terrestrial, often choosing to run rather than fly.
Guinea fowl hens are not known to be good mothers but in the wild, the hen's mate may help tend the young keets during the day, by keeping them warm and finding food.

There are 5 toes on each elephant foot, however, not all have toenails.
Both the Asian and African forest elephants have four toes on the back feet and five on the front feet.
Thick pads of gristle under each heel serve as a shock absorber and cushioning that allows these largest terrestrial animas to move and bear weight without experiencing any pain.

Weaver birds are the only birds recorded with the ability to tie knots.
Male weavers tend to be the nest builders. Once the nest building is completed, the female weaver will inspect her partner’s work.
If it is not up to par, she will rip the nest to shreds and the male will have to rebuild it until she approves and moves in.

Okutembuka is a word that originates out of the Oshiwambo language meaning: nomad or nomadic man who goes from place to place. Okutembuka was founded in 2012 by Rolf Tonnemacher, a Namibian born local, who grew up on a sheep farm in the southeastern region of Namibia. He himself, farmed until joining the tourism industry in April 1994 as a freelance tour guide. Rolf is a family man with an adventurous spirit, and very much embodies the Okutembuka name.
Through many years of being on the road, and learning the Namibian bushveld like the back of his hand, Rolfs’ vast knowledge of geology, ethnology and wildlife make him an exceptional guide. He is always keen to share his vast insights with others and has empowered other Namibian locals through education and job creation with this successful business.
Romy is Okutembuka’s Senior Safari Specialist. With 4 years experience in the car rental business and over 7 years experience in the tourism industry, Romy knows Africa travel better than anyone and is always on call to support you before, during and after your African adventure.
