Mkulu Kei Horse Trails & Riding Holidays - Cher-a-Don Gap Year Destination
A horseback ride along the Sunshine Coast, Eastern Cape, South Africa. For your equine beach ride, coastal horse trek and African horse safari adventure and a great destination for volunteers wanting to work with horses and learn our natural horsemanship methods and do lots of riding, non- riding volunteers on the social de
velopment side. Having ridden and marketed the Wild Coast Transkei as THE destination for horse trekking for the last 15 years, I was wrong, the Sunshine Coast in the Eastern Cape of South Africa IS. We have joined forces with Jono and Mel a dynamic team and offering you, this ride is definitely a “must do” experience for any riding ability. We start on the first Friday of the month and ride out from Kleinemonde and can make the trail as long as the client wants riding 17 -30 km per day 4-6 hours in a continues ride, so no two days are the same and every night is a different B&B our destination on the 7th day Alexandria Forest. So you can book a 3-day, 5-day, 7-day or longer the 7 day. We try to book a maximum of 8 riders of similar riding ability but can take a group of 15 if they book together. Ride in the waves and experience the coastline; the beaches are secluded, wider and longer offering more opportunities to canter. There are sand dunes and safe rivers to swim, undisturbed ancient shell Middens, evidence of the earliest San people, huge coastal forests, ship wrecks, old cannons, rocky coves, cliff tops with stunning views out to sea and a complete contrast of gently rolling fertile hills. See dolphins, whales, seals, penguins as well as many different types of coastal and land birds that included some rare ones. You will also see monkeys and various species of buck, rock pools with sea urchins and jellyfish as well as an array of brightly coloured seaweed all adding to your horse trek but it is the quality of riding along the coastline and its long open beaches. If you have dreamed of a horse-riding holiday cantering across deserted white sandy beaches these trails offer that and more. The horses are super fit Arab crosses and your guide a horseman with plenty of knowledge of the area and a conservation background to add more interesting facts and information. Picnic lunches are taken along the route and at night the B&Bs offer comfortable accommodation, hot baths and good food. http://www.mkulukeihorsetrails.co.za The current website is not up to-date we are working on
