Who are we?

Drumming with a Difference is run by co-directors Karyn Stuart and Carol Williams, who are HPCSA registered Music Therapists. We are passionate about using music, as it has the ability to affect positive personal and social change. Our core business currently:

1) Training for healthcare professionals, social workers, youth care workers etc. This training focuses on practical drumming skills, grou

p facilitation skills and the theoretical underpinning of the use of music that has therapeutic benefits. Who could benefit? Children, adolescents and adults with mental health issues; people with special needs; children and adolescents with social issues and more. These workshops are tailor- made to each specific environment, and will include ideas on how to adapt activities for your context. The rundown: Training consists of 2 workshops (8 hours in total). Each workshop has a practical and theoretical component. We encourage participants to implement activities immediately and use this as a basis for group learning. CEU points: 8

2) Team and personal development workshops, tailor-made for your needs. These workshops are available to any individuals or teams that would like to develop personally. We can design a workshop that will cater for your specific needs. We also provide a report at the end of workshops to review things that have come up in workshops and with our recommendations for continuing development. Workshops may include drumming, song writing, improvisations on different instruments, art activities and discussions. Previous clients:

- Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development, GESS programme. The fine print: Please note that it is NOT a prerequisite to be ‘musical’ or to have musical ability to participate in these workshops…in fact sometimes the less you know about music, the better.

We had a wonderful time running an open drumming circle at an international conference this week. The SA Care Forum Festival focused on celebrating the richness of aging and involved professionals from all over the world who work in elderly care. Karyn also presented at this conference. What fun!

We will be running a workshop with 100 girls from Herschel School this afternoon on the topic of 'Your voice matters', looking at the influence that media has on our 'voices' and the perceptions we have of our value as people.
